Another XP Formula Thread

Post by jared96 »

Starrted a new skill tree a few weeks ago and thought I'd track just what itv was going to require of me. Being Master HA, shields started at 50 and making a few shields over time had me up around 56. So I started digging and crafting and tracked with a spreadsheet just what it took to get there.

Well to go from 56 -> 250, I hadda earn 12,610,038 XP and craft 3,427 shields. From 56-100 they were the big ones, after that they were bucklers. Took 78 crafts (with cats) to get that last level.

With just a quick look, it seems, for shields anyway the required XP can be calculated with the following formula:

XP = F * Level * Level

The F is the "fudge factor" which seems to range a bit. At level:

151 = 2.27
175 = 2.11
200 = 2.43
225 = 2.55
250 = 2.56

So for example, earning level 250.....

2.6 * 250 * 250 = 160,000 XP (159,773 actually in my case)

Looking at another skill 1h spear, between 185 and 195 at least, formula appears to be the same with a different fudge factor somewhere between 3.4 and 3.6:

3.45 x level x level

At level 191 for example 3 x 191 x 191 = 125,859 (126,000 actual)

Interesting. I'd expect all skills to be that way with just different Fs then. But it's very odd that F is actually lower for 175 than it is for 151.

Is there any pattern if you plot all the F values against their level?

out of game xp/level counting based log file (if xp is not nerfed on purpose) is very inaccurate ;-) , but
melee/range/magic/forage skills should have same "xp formula". craft has bit different.

the numbers in xp_graph.csv (link in sig) are from forage, but fight/magic numbers were "close enough" when i did the xp counting.
to get accurate xp/level values, it really depends how much xp is left for ding and how much xp did you got when you dinged (1xp left for ding and 3k xp for example)
Is there any pattern if you plot all the F values against their level?
fuzzy pattern ;-)

Well it's off cause remember if you have gained 59,999 xp and the trip is 60k, then I'm logging say 62,500 so my F's are always gonna be bigger. But it is add that it goes up and down.

Congrats on doing the math :) I couldn't have done it myself

XP formulas are fun to find (I guess) but knowing it doesn't change the fact that you will still need to do the actions til the final 250th ding ;) .

But it's nice to know how many more mats you'll have to dig to make sure you'll get those 3 levels in crafting. Or how many levels those 5 stacks of cats will last you. :)

My experience with mastering a combat skill was that you'd use up about 800 cats per level at 230 and almost a full stack by 250. That seems to fit with that graph pretty well.

Quite different from that graph. Craft looks like it could be quadratic, but fight/magic/forage seems to be 2 straight lines meeting at around level 125.

Did you happen to check afflictions specifically? I swear those take more experience than other combat skills. :p

250 159,773 78 858 2.56

Totals are 9,966,169 XP needed from 151 -> 250, making 2,611 crafts using 28,721 mats with an average Fudge Factor of 2.39. Note all crafting was done with cats (when I didn't forget to load them....that explains some high vraft numbers in above) and with an overcraft of 50 working down to 40 and then back up again. For example, crafted at level 240 when toon was level 190 .... when toon reached 200, switched to 250 craft. With no cats, figure on doubling the amount of mats and crafts for the most part.
