That really doesn't matter in MMORPGs. If a feature exists, even optionally and used by only part of the playerbase, it affects the nature of the game and community.1. They are optional you don't have to use.

Re: cats vote
+1 to Kat's post, its not just about how fast you level compared to other people, its what the cats are doing to the game/community.. i'm pretty sure if we got rid of cats, outposts'd be much more 'fun' and much less serious.. it would be more an issue of pride and RP than game mechanics. even though this would degrade outposts A LOT imho, its still a million times better than what they are doing now....

people will always find something to ocmpete over, if not cats then op mats, if you take out op mats, then it will be flower, if you take out flowers, it will be purely sup mats, if you take out sup mats it will be excell mats, don't take out one thing, it make sa gateway to takeing out everything that people may want.

Re: cats vote
I'd rather just see alternative methods of getting these xp accelerators, such as in events (ghost kitin event) or off boss mobs (slightly less rare ones maybe) or as mission rewards (honor points, or kitin lair missions, anyone?) or as foraged items in truly challenging areas (like the prime roots used to be, back when the patrols were around). In this way, they would no longer be obtainable only by controlling a pvp 'reward' but would still require cooperation among groups to acquire.
Re: cats vote
Really didnt want to get involved in this, but I am so bored @ work
as a very casual PvP'r I dont see the need for 'rewards' for PvP play.. either you enjoy doing it or you dont. If anything, PvP rewards should be titles, since the more uber you are , the less advantages you should need. The only thing worth dieing for is glory
So xp bonus cats are bad, tied to a PvP mechanism.
But every time the devs take away anything that is ingame, from the players, the population haemorrhages, and we really cant afford that.
As an old player, I want to see people get involved with the lore and world of ryzom, which in day to day terms means quests and missions. Getting these to a quality that makes them interesting probably hasnt been achieved in any MMO, but having valuable rewards is an industry alternative. Periodic major events are the best option.
Getting rid of cats is probably a bad idea, but the way they come into the game could be improved a lot ( even turn the gambling wheels into cat dispensers.. its not as if theres any fun in using them as is
)

Too much emphasis on them in the game.
Anything that makes you "beat" the game in weeks is wrong. MMOs should have a lifespan measured in years, not weeks.

Re: cats vote
Cats make nice rewards for events. Infact almost perfect if they were solely for that.
in the meantime.. we could allways semi-negate their existence by helping everyone to have fairer access to them.....

Re: cats vote
Personally, I have mixed emotions with regard to cats. On the one hand, I have witnessed the effect of cats on some players (something about roses and smells comes to mind), and they have become Atys crack (I used to be a junkie too, to the point that crafting without them felt like a waste of mats).
I understand their removal could benefit the game as a whole, but I am not in a position to state this for I have been using them cats extensively since they were introduced, and it could be hypocrite to deny other players what I have had. This is without precluding that, if they are in-game, I think it could benefit the game having an alternative means (not PvP related) to obtain them.

As a new player, that's what I would find unfair.iphdrunk wrote:and it could be hypocrite to deny other players what I have had.
It sounds like an elitist approach to say that it was ok for one playerbase to use them. As the new ones enter, they should be denied the opportunity. It creates a set of players that leveled easier then once they are satisfied with their progress they disregard new players efforts because now the items are too political to them. It's certainly not a way to bring more people to the game when they know that others before them have had it easier but can still flaunt their progress once they decide that the time has come to do away with the advantage.

This logic does not work for many reasons.gingoveve1 wrote:As a new player, that's what I would find unfair.

A player that came into the game earlier has had the 'advantage' of many bonus items that are no longer around ...HP eggs....Candy sticks....Titles.....
Cats are just one aspect of the game which is evolving constantly....(subject to debate

Personally I am fine with cats in the game (don't use them myself)....also happy with PvP (again I don't participate).....
And Welcome to Ryzom, pleased to have you here

edit - I don't know if you are aware that cats have not been in from the start so it was the 'newer' players that had the bonus the 'original' players missed

Experience is essential.....Wisdom is priceless.
