Well I am now going to take a leaf out of my own book - and offer you my help. Add me to your friends list - my ingame name is Twina (what a surprise). I am a karavan follower - but I will show you how we are not as bad as you think. Contact me in game and I will help you level - and you will see that you can have fun with some of *us karavan* folk. You may see a different side to things then :) :)
I would take Twina's offer mate, Twina and DD helped me get 250 in melee, I know they are evil Karavan n'all, but.... meh...they're evil in a Good way :D

jared96 wrote:Yes, PvP is fun for many people....yes Nevrax vision was to include it as part of the game. But the implementaion was poor. Because of the "penalties" associated with staying out of the faction stuff, PvE folks feel cheated. When either side dominates, and thereby controls the majority of the game's worthwhile resources, another part of the community feels cheated. So all that's left is to fight over resources with 2/3 of the community always going to be left feeling that they don't have "equal opportunity".

Agree, expecially in the part quoted.

jack

numbers are pretty close recently mainly down to low KA turnouts maybe u guys have given up :p

although that can change anytime as the karavan that have not been showing for outpost battles recently could always return.

but again u guys have same thing that regular 50 players that attend 99% of battles.

for kami its about free'ing our lands for karavan its about taking over the planet although you will never hear doubletap say that ;)

no one has said the kara are evil lol.

the original point was very clear, that no one should own all ops.

i did used to team with the kara that i know, i dont anymore because they all exceeded my level by alot. guess why? cat usage. hence the alt, they have cats, i have an alt. yes some people dont use cats, but the KA is doing something with 100 q250 cats they get a day.
jared96 wrote: Saying the one side doesn't have all the OP's is a meaningless statement. It's an excuse, not a justification. The meaningful statement is "One side has all (but 1) of the OP's of signficance".... Cats from 50-100 are meaningless.

If we as little street kids could figure out a way to make their games more balanced, challenging and fun....I would think that a game company or even the players themsleves could come up with an idea or two.

Go back and read the ones from Infinty days :) . When Atys Wayfarers went over to Kara side, we had long meetings discussing whether we'd go to. If one holds the opininion that domination by one side is detrimental to the game, then it necessarily follows that the dominated are in a far weaker position to effect game than the dominators. My stance has always been to make it harder to dominate. Let's say OotN and GoJ were to "do an Atys Wayfarers" and switch sides just cause "they want a challenge". I'd then see a note on the forums posted by a kami saying my forum stance isn't very neutral cause kamis own more than their fair share OP's.

My 17 year old son always says "You always take his side". But again, when the 17 year old is smackin the 10 year old, what other position can I take ? GF erred in thinking that OP's wouldn't turn into a faction thing. My first preference would be that GF "fix it" by making it progressively harder to take and hold OP's in non-native lands.

For example, on holding......it would seem to fot the lore that say Jena's powers would be weakened over time in a kami native land where she holds less sway. So say when in an OP battle in Fyros, why not have Jena's blessing (your damage / heals / whatever) reduced by 1% or so for each RL day. After two weeks of ownership, defense would be a bit harder by 1/7th. Jena's power would regen at the same rate from the lack of drain and in two weeks be back at full strength again. There's many other methods which have previously been posted.

If GF doesn't fix it, I would hope that the players would fix it. If I was hangin with my street buds from brooklyn, we'd prolly do something to the effect where we'd take an OP in a non native land for a week. Then hand it back. Next month we'd take it again....that would give the dominating side one week's worth of OP bennies and leave the other side with 3 weeks worth. After a while one would hope that comity would be reached and the somewhat hollow "I want a challenge" would, in many cases, no longer be a euphemism for "I want to win" or "I want all the pie".

Past and now, not even close to the same. The amount of respect between the factions was huge. We'd RP events together and lay the smackdown to the kitin as needed without begrudgingly standing side by side. It's what we do now that matters to the new players, our past is only a tidbit about character and experience with certain Ryzom politics.

Infinity did not make attacks at 3AM on a workday, they setup an afternoon attack and dared us to show up for our beatings. Their organisation, player skills and class are unmatched to this day. Sure some players are still here (and typically still my IG enemy), but it's how we conduct ourselves now.

If any guild decides to switch sides based on making their game more enjoyable... so be it. IC I will call them names and such but still ask them what's up in the game. It is a game, always has been... If the forums weren't always a matter of being the one who makes the most noise wins, we'd all be better off. I see the forums as a mini-game, the folks on Aristople are not the ones I see on the forums.
