So who plays a Matis?

Some of them would like to think so.

In purely personal preference, IMO they're too humanlike. I prefer more...exotic races.

I have both a Matis alt and a Fyros alt. I even tried a male Matis once, but just couldn't get the hang of being a guy...

All things considered, my real life (tm) personality seems to fit my Trykerette best.

But I like my Matis lady too (her name is Casi) and I love the forest lands.

What don't you like? Just out of curiousity...me personally I thought the Fyros were the least to my liking as a human, but the more I check see what they accomplished, the more I'm impressed.

Each race seems to have a trait they are famous for.. the Zoraï think, the Fyros fight, the Trykers party - and the Matis intrigue.
Due to their lack of practical, productive talents, and absence of any trace of empathy the only role they are really suited for is management.

right from my original character creation, I was planning on being a diplomat, bringing everyone together under the benevolent and progressive guidance of the Karavan and the enlightened governance of the Matis, to usher in a new shiny-yellow-stuff age for all Homins (theoretically, no one on Atys knows what gold is )

I find Matisian conceit and arrogance, and pure self centered blindness, extremely easy to play - from too many RL examples and my own personality.

As a bit of an offtopic, on my perception of the various races. In a "total war" situation, the Matis and the Zoraï would be the ones commiting the atrocities, developing and using WMDs (consider the Psykoplas on Silan), they have that "ends justifies the means" attitude and lack of serious concern for other nations.
The Trykers and Fyros just seem to have other priorities.

i tried the matis characters (i even have one on silan ) but i can't play a matis without thinking i have to be a total snob _OR_ a poet. which happens to be where my one matis character lies - a poet RPer (he's still in the growing up stage in silan )

It's "Slavenis" and by no means "psykoplas" on Silan mate...

I play a fyros because that suits my RL character best but from what experience I had in dealing with matis they are not at all as arrogant as people picture them to be. Matis are 95% karavan players that is why it's rather natural that opposite factions picks on them and tries to picture them as evil selfish and arrogant, which in fact they are not.\

Matis simply have a different view on things it seems so this might sometimes be mistaken for arrogance. But I have seen them fight to their last drop of blood for their friends - give away all their hard earned money to newbs and! I quite frequently have seen certain matis players sharing q250 cats with players of opposite faction...

Matis are best known for their organisation and management skills. Maybe that is why their alliance (mostly matis as far as I kknow) is so effective... As for scheming and intrigues... hmm... Thanks god I don't participate in faction squabbles That's all I can say. I have never seen those "intrigues" in action but since "the ends justify the means" approach is indeed true when it concerns "rebuilding empires" I can quite well imagine the matis being cunning and even ruthless when it is necessary. I bet their faction war adversaries are much better informed about this than I, getting beaten at conflicts time and time again

All in all I have a lot of respect for matis but I would NEVER play one

Well Ill pick the first one since its closest to what the case was with me.... with it being the Race I played in Open and Closed beta I just stuck with it
