If this game ever gets a real player base a Uni chat would just be text running past faster than you could read it and it would be nothing worth reading.

If you want to talk use faction, region or team with friends.

People were chatting just fine before uni came along.

Anyways.

If we're talking channels, a clone of uni is not gunna be a good idea.

Generally speaking the whole of atys doesnt need a play-by-play of what you're doing. and Neva is right "Uni chat would just be text running past faster than you could read it"

As most chat is only directed at a few people surly it'd be better to be able to clone a team chat as opposed to uni? That way you and your friends (maybe more than 9 people in total) can chat without having to be in the same guild/region/team/faction. At least that way you dont have to listen to the people you'd call idiots.

Tho, i must admit. I find it very hard to have some serious convo while im grinding/trekking. I don't see how you;d be able to chat to even more people while actually playing....

I haven't voted (because no one with any power to effect these changes will read this, I don't doubt) -- but I feel allowing homins to chat in a universal OOC channel would be fruitful if only because it shows that we are all the same. Being locked away in faction chat, one often forgets just how many people are playing for neutral/other side. I like to help anyone who asks for it, and I get the suspicion that people think that because I am karavan I will not help people who are not.

So, I'd like to be able to talk to other homins with impunity as long as I am not acting like an idiot. But the most elegant solution would be player made channels as has been suggested. Unfortunately, I agree with the cynicism on how many bugs such a system would have (and that is pretending that the amount of time it would take to implement is negligible --which it is not, given GF-France's current turn-around time) hence I am saying it would be a 'nice-to-have' game feature. Can we survive without it? Sure, but would life be better with it? Perhaps/perhaps not -- but at least it would be there, and another nice feature of game.

~Tal

Note: For those of you who are faction-aligned and use faction-chat channels, I wonder how many would like to get rid of the chat-bug that prevents certain people from typing in faction after they are use team chat...? Seems a trivial fix to me.

Hell yeah I vote YES. add it in with all the other goodies i'm sure we'll get in the very near future. You know they have implemented flying mektoubs in the next couple of patches, i'm sure we'll get them. after all you'd have to be a bunch of devs not even capable of implementing new titles (names above our heads) to deny us it..... huzzah !!

mm, I can't even keep up with the chat channels I already have, and I have uni turned off 95% of the time, and rarely rarely look at faction chat.

around/region/team/guild is about two too many for my pea brain. but I don't know what to chuck out, so I keep all of those running. usually keep team separated so I don't miss anything important, keep the rest mashed together so I can see something besides chat windows.

of course, i also think keyboards have way too many buttons.

The game population must be taken into account when addressing Uni issues. The "Hey bonehead, this channel is for Q & A not LFG requests, do that in Region Chat." responses must be particularly frustrating for new players when the /who they have just done shows no other players in region.

I have sat on line for 6 hours at a time some nights with region and faction channels not even scrolling past the 6 line window height I set.

By far the most annoying thing about Uni is the SAHM's - (Self Appointed Hall Monitors) telling people what to do and "their" interpretation of what is allowed and how it should be phrased. Some CSR's are very good about managing the channel, some are heavy handed.

Uni channel became necessary for Q & A when Jolt was sent packing. With no volunteer CSR's on line for long periods, the player base has been asked to help new players. If recognized as the primary, not essentially sole, purpose of the channel this should work quite well as it does when certain CSR's are on.

IMO, if the Q &A is flowing hot and heavy, then it should be left alone and not used for other purposes. If it sits empty without a line scrolling by for 4 hours, then I think this sends a very negative message to new players. Of course if it's too sily, argumentative or anything else unpleasant, that should be curtailed by CSR intervention but as long as the discussion s Ryzom related, i don't see the problem.

I served on the BoD for our local Little League for many years. We have numerous, nicely manicured baseball fields which are to be "used for all scheduled LL games, practices and related activities." However, when there is no LL activity scheduled, we don't have reps running over and telling the local kids to get off the field saying "This field is only for scheduled LL activities, go play in a storm drainage sump if my want some open space." Some day those kids will be LL'ers. Why should a resource go unused when it's not being used for anything else at that time ?

Again, some CSR's do a very good job of keeping the discussion Ryzom related while not necessarily newbie Q & A. I'd like to see more answrs like:

"Well the best place to look for a team is in region, faction or guild chats .... but if ya strike out, and it's not too busy in here, come back and let us know and maybe some peeps can ask for you in their guild chat or faction chat channels."
