second universal chat channel to CHAT in?

do you want you a second uni chat channel thats not for QA and for actually chatting in?



= pros
- new people can see, yes we actually have people playing
- we can talk to each as communities often do
- it makes the Q&A channel alot more effective as there is no incentived to post random stuff in there
- already code in place to base it off of, the current uni channel

- cons
- im not sure, im know some people will post some.

- cons from other people
- need additional dev time to integrate and test
- need additional csr staff to police
- are not what the community needs to act as a community
- degrade the living planet to a chat room, first class admittedly, but still

Imho It's totally fine as it is...

What we REALLY!!! need are attack/defence channels for OP fights...

I voted yes, but agree with khyle that a global channel is generally (as seen in many other mmo) a bad idea, because of the 'high' risk of having a channel full of garbage.

But I voted yes because I believe this community is really one of the best ever seen, and i believe it can self-moderate.

The best solution. imho, would be a players-created channels, but i understand that this is not really needed actually.

I don't want devs going to develop a new chat system while more urgent development is needed.

Anyway, speaking generally, player-created channels are the only one that can be used safety just because they are moderated by the players.

Player-created channels is an awesome idea/feature. There could be guild-OOC and guild-IC channels, public RP channels, alliance channels, OP battle channels, etc...

Giving players the tools to create solutions is good...

just throw a few things in
1 - there is already code in place for uni chat, this is just another channel. not hard to add. i dont think the devs have much work right now as it is....
2 - to enforce what? ive only seen CSR's enforce 2 things in uni. "keep it Q&A" and no cussing. on the cussing part id bet guild leaders would in general enforce that.
3 - i have friends from silan in lakelands, i group alot in the desert. i have no way except to talk to them except tells. (yes i know you can tag up)
4 - im not sure it would degrade it.... at worst it would just show what the community is made of. for better or worse.

yeah i thought about putting that up, but it would take alot more work to code. and oh god the bugs we'd have to work through for it.

Sorry but i voted no.
The way it is now is pretty good, there are Q/A but also pleasant chat, and the fact this chat is policed and mildly restricted is what keeps it pleasant.
A chat-only uni channel will end up too soon in a distasteful cacophony and will be avoided by most.

The best solution to a quiet Atys is not necessarily a new channel, as the problem lies mostly in lower populations than the current system is built for. Region chat is generally empty, faction channels slow down at certain times of the day, and even some otherwise active guild chats trickle off in the summer. If dev time were concentrated not on a universal chatterbox, but instead on greater things for the game such that more players arrive as a result, life on Atys would likely spring up nicely and the desire/need for such a chat channel would fade.

I didn't vote because it's not that important to me. If it's implemented I'll probably have it silenced anyway.
