When I awoke, I found myself at Withered Stock and snow covered the bark. I carefully made my way toward my beloved Jen-Laï. I saw that I still carried the honor of the Kami as one of their Champions but that title carried with it painful memories of days long gone. Carrying this great burden, I sought out a Kami Master and asked to be stripped of rank and title and returned to the Old Lands. The Kami Master laughed and clapped its hands. Pain tore through my mind and body as the Kami raised its hand and a searing light burned through me. Before I completely lost consciousness, I could hear its burbling voice echoing in my mind, "You Kami friend. You loyal to Kami. You Zoraï. Find Zoraï. Find Kami."
I awoke with a start, standing before Chiang the Strong. I bowed deeply and it was then that I noticed that I was again wearing the garb of a refugee. The Kami Master had indeed stripped me of rank and title but instead of sending me back to the Old Lands, it sent me back to the refugee island.
Imagine my shock at seeing a Tryker walk by and on learning that the Four Islands were gone, destroyed in some cataclysm and that now all homins were being gathered in to a single, "fifth" island that the Matis had secretly populated years earlier and that some of the greatest masters of the four races had gathered on Silan to teach all homins.
As I walked away from Chiang, I discovered that the Kami Master had left me three things from my former life: A title which I shall keep forever hidden, a token of my former life that I may one day wear again and a small piece of bark with an inscription upon it
I am diminished and sent to the West, to Silan and become simply Gorran of Silan. Having been sent here by the Kami Master, I will again prove my loyalty to my people and to the Kami.Gorran Kami Champion of Jen-Laï, High Officer and Ambassador of Guild Comitatus Praetorian
By the strength of one are many made strong.
