Contact gamespot about their review

Post by raynes »

Recently gamespot posted this review of Saga of Ryzom:
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/sagaryzom/review.html

If you read the article it's full of inaccuracies. The biggest one is the comment about the game being released earlier this year in Europe. If gamespot wants to give a game a bad review that is fine, but it's not ok to post incorrect facts. It's even worse to base a review on those incorrect facts. I have sent a letter off to them complaining of the review. If anyone else wishes to do the same, here is the link to the contact form.

Guess they didnt get enough money from Nevrax... I never read Gamespot reviews anymore. Most of the big review sites are junk nowadays anyway.

IGN makes reviews... Gamespy makes reviews... but Gamespy is owned by IGN. Gamespot is owned by CNet... big companies, hardly independant, the only good reviews are the ones you do for yourself.

Too bad as it leads many people to skip good games, or to follow big hypes.

You'll probably find that Nevrax wouldn't buy ad space on Gamespot, so they gave them a bad review. I've seen that happen many times in many different software reviews, not just games.

They seem to have focussed almost entirely on the negatives, and even the few positive comments were rife with caveats. They havn't exactly lied about anything (even the 'earlier European release' is technically true, even though it was about a week) but they seem to trying to make damn sure the game comes across as far worse than it is.

I love the way they class stability as having 'major problems'. Personally I've found the stability of the Ryzom servers to be among the best I've ever seen in a MMOG, especially one so close to launch. Lag is almost completely gone now, and I've personally never had a disconnect or seen a server crash.

If you want to read what is IMO a much fairer review of the game, try the one on GameSpy...

After reading the article, experiencing much of what the author is subscribing to in my own experience, I have to agree that the author personally had a tough time AS WELL AS having perused the forums well enough to see the major issues some, not all, have been facing. *BUT* it sounds like he/she simply is doing a superficial first glance overview on a game to which he/she has no intentions of playing, like I do.

I registered at Gamespot to post a better assessment of the game than was depicted, but found you need to be a "level 6" Gamespoteer before you can post a review. Hmmm, put the fire out quickly there......

My hope out of this is: Neverax gets a bit uneasy with the 1st glimpse review and sits down as a unit to establish a very focused and deliberate approach to further polishing this Gem-In-The-Rough. This game is a breath of fresh air compared to most of the current MMORPG's (imho) and is quite intriguing...to say the least.

So because the game came out a week earlier in Europe, the game should of had a lot of the features added in by the time it was released in NA? It's a very misleading statement.

I get the feeling that this was made based on late beta impressions...considering that they still have thebeta link at the bottom of the very review page...

I agree. The statement made is sound like Final Fantasy which had been out a year more more before the release in the US.

I've found server stability in Ryzom to be pretty good, certainly better than serverl other games I have played at launch. The review seemed superfical to me.

If they want to give the game a bad review, then they could just stick to the content aspect. There is nothing to do in Ryzom other than grind out levels. That is a pretty big negative. The other stuff however, was just poor. It was like the guy played for a couple days during the "lagfest" and based his entire review on that.

wow talk about nitpicking. Get over it, not all reviews will praise the game, its a fact of life.

Quick! Lets all start a petition to shut gamespot down for good cuz they gave our beloved ryzom a bad review!! 0_o
