OotN sometimes run guild events on Silan, so many have alts there.
Presumably other guilds do the same.
A suggestion.
Make it not possible to guild invite free-trialers.. this is so obvious I hope GF have already got it in place. while guild membership might help new players enjoy Silan more, It is also a useful carrot to entice players to sign up, and filling the guild roster with free-trialers sounds like a potential exploit.

The OP did not specify if the problem was happening on Silan or mainland, I thought it sounded more like ML. All you can do then is ignore the spammers

Coz spamming is bad.

Shame on anyone, Kami or Karavan that thinks a new player needs to have invite beat-downs. I only popped into this thread because it seemed "planned" for propoganda...

It's never been the way of Melinoe for many Jena year as all know... the responses just seemed planned.

Many guilds, like Melinoe, expect homins to have read the lore and decided what they want to do (in my words) "when they grow up". It is a key part of our world on Atys. We have all been new, but we had a plan like others... if your plan is neutral, it is not easy... but possible depending on your path.
If your neutral is not pure, you have many options... true neutral is no joke and has reguard in Atys.

It's a hard path to thread... few tried it and some have greattly tried to build it. In the end it's player's gamechoice.

May I simply say that I was shocked to see Guild markers when I first set foot on Silan. I understand that many of the Guild Ambassadors on Silan are simply trying to help the refugees but at the same time they, intentionally or not, create a great pressure among some of the refugees to immediately sign on with whichever Guild has the best representation on the island.

I echo vguerin's statement above.

Might I also quote from http://forums.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29166
Warning Signs {that the guild recruiting you might not be the guild for you}

1) A guild that tries to recruit you without ever having met you. Quite a few guilds do this and basically see how you work out. This tends to be a "quantity" vs "quality" approach. It does actually work for some guilds. But as a general practice, it makes for a chaotic and disjointed guild. In general, guilds like this will spend a lot of time developing new recruits that then leave as soon as they figure out that they aren't compatible.

2) A guild that tries to buy your membership - No guild should be so desperate that they need to buy members [either with cash or even with "stuff"]. If they are, you should be asking yourself "why?". Also, you should be thinking about what your personal contributions to the guild will be used for. These guilds attract the greedy and opportunistic. (of course, if you're greedy and opportunistic, you should be seeking these guilds out

3) Guilds that poach from other guilds - If you're already in a guild and another guild actively tries to recruit you, you should be concerned. The guild is likely to be made up of people who have limited loyalty and may hop from guild to guild regularly.

4) The high-pressure sell - If a guild uses a "join now or never" approach or just tosses the invite at you when you show the slightest interest, you should be concerned. It's another sign of possible desperation. Most mature guilds will make an offer and just let you decide at your leisure.
