While you are trying to resolve the bug that delete all the bookmark (!) and delete all the UI settings, you could at least implement an autosave option.
Every time someone log with character XX, ryzom automagically should create a copy of the current save folder.
This way at least, you don't have to remember everytime you log to make a copy of the save folder.

Yes we can do lotta things ourselves but if we all did what we were suppossed to do there'd be no need to have anti virus / anti spyware anti-malware programs on our puters.
Yes, I suggets that before applying any patch, as well a speriodically, use this simple solution. My directions are based upon PowerDesk (a free Windows Explorer Replacement from V-Cpm that gives us back 2 panes like in ole File Manager days and has built in zipping / unzipping). If ya don't have Powerdesk, (I haven'y seen Windows Explorer in 10 or 12 years) then use whatever method ya use to find and zip files.
1. Locate Ryzom\Save folder
2. Highlight all files in PowerDesk
3. Right Click / Select Powerdesk / Select Zip
4. Default file name will be "Save.zip" which I change to "Save<data>.zip where the date looks like 2007-08-17 or whatever
This creates a zipped folder of all ya config files. If ya files get hosed, locat the zip file, right clikc and unzip to fix.
Now of course, as per my intro, it sure would be nice if patcher did all this for ya.....or if game did it on a schedule.

Re: suggestion for the UI and bookmark bug
But hmm what is the point for a new avatar to use land markers at all? The crashes happen when you make a new land marker... Try treking a newbie and they want to add markers for all of the TPs and portals you come across.. They end up spending a hour rebooting back into the game... This bug needs to be fixed or the patch needs to be removed....
On a side note that is 0 and 2 for the dev team.... I can understand one bad patch but to pull it off the servers then have it for two weeks to fix the bugs and just create new ones isnt great at all. I sure hope GF are looking for new devs cause the only word i can use to describe the current ones is incompetent. I i know that may sound rough but try spending most of your day with 3 or 4 newbies trying to reassure them that client is stable... That such bugs dont happen normally... Well i am at the point that i feel like i am lying to them....

Yep, this is not good for new players
I have some friends comming over to ryzom, one tonight and at least three others soon...(hopeing they bring the rest of my old guild with them)
Not a good advertisment that I have to mail them warning them not to make any markers! as they may crash out of the game

Re: suggestion for the UI and bookmark bug
Go to Game Config / Graphics / general and uncheck "Full SCreen". Play in window made and, at least so fra, I can make all the flags yIwant.
Re: suggestion for the UI and bookmark bug
Be careful with your suggestions; I play in window mode exclusively, and my client crashes every time I mess with map markers -- also get similar runtime messages when exiting normally -- I've taken to killing game from task-manager just to make sure it doesn't terminate 'correctly'

Lol good idea, why didnt i think of thatshiny1 wrote: I've taken to killing game from task-manager just to make sure it doesn't terminate 'correctly'![]()

Re: suggestion for the UI and bookmark bug
1. I am talking only about making a landmark (planting flag) causing a crash which is a very widespread problem. The exit problem is far less widespread, is sporadic and I'm in no position to troubleshoot it as it's not consistently reproducable.shiny1 wrote:Be careful with your suggestions; I play in window mode exclusively, and my client crashes every time I mess with map markers -- also get similar runtime messages when exiting normally -- I've taken to killing game from task-manager just to make sure it doesn't terminate 'correctly'![]()
2. Careful ? What's the downside ?
Try it, if it works great (testing on 4 boxes here is 4 for 4 ....testing among friends IG was 6 for 6).....if it doesn't work you won't be any worse of then you were before.
Unlike most forum posts I deal with in tech support forums I run, dont see peeps posting the basic necessities of dermining a source.
What OS, RAM, , VID Card, Vid driver version ? Some of this info might provide some commonalities of why worarounds work on one system and not another.
