I like the idea.

One thing that really annoyed me in PvP in Ryzom is that all levels are placed on the same 'battlefield'. As a player with not even 1 lvl 200 skill, I dont stand any chance at all -ever- on the battlefield, when one lvl 250 is around.

That doesnt mean I think a lvl 200 should be able to win from a lvl 200, not at all. It just means that it is annoying not being able to fight against players of the same level, which would be much more interesting.

Sehracii gives a good reason why higher lvls just cant be turned down. I wouldnt know a fast solution for that, but battles of players that would be around the same level, would be nice...

Yeah, would be cool, agreed...

So why don´t you just maybe agree on it, for say the next OP fight?
Why implement something that players can hadle themselves quite easily?

Why not, let´s say agree on, the next lvl 100 OP that is attacked get´s only attacked by and defended by lvl 100 players?
Couldn´t be too hard, or won´t it?

Just an example and a thought, I´m sure you´ll find many valuable reasons against that. :p ;)

Hmmm i see a serious problem with this. I am not sure if any of you realize how quick people level up in ryzom atm. Level 100-150 is done in a month or 2 by most, level 200 in about 3-4 months, master 5-6 months. And that is more of the casual player not the heavy grinders that will hit 250 in a month. If we start to level restrict OP battles we will be cutting the amount of content we currently have by half for all old players and the majority of new ones over a period of 5 to 6 months.

On a side note, everyone regardless of level can be useful at a OP battle, but it takes a creative mind to figure out how they are helpful. But over the last year of playing i have talked to quite a few newbies that were told they were useless at a OP battle. In the end these newbies felt left out where they could of had fun and the reason they were left out was cause of bad battle/guild leaders. I will admit there were some bad implementation of OPs but this isnt one of them.

On a final note i have to say i always seen the newbies/lowbies at the OP battles as sorta squires to knights. Also you could use the reference of apprentice to master, the things is the newbies/lowbies are taught by the veterans in a real battle. This is usually done within guild and helps advance players skills greatly over a period of time, as well as giving them motivation to go and grind. I see this as one of the most invaluable ways to teach a young homin about working as a team, about pvp, about reflexs and just to how have a good amount of fun if you win or lose.

OK, seen some good points here,

My thoughts are.. only level cap for OPs 100 down .. because the lowbies need something to fight for, and high levels dont need to be there for those.

and by level cap I mean players with a high combat skill are excluded from participating. This can be denying anyone with an unmodified dodge above 124 - for example. 125 is where a lot of upgrades, and racial spells come in, so it seems a reasonable break point.

High level diggers and crafters with low combat skills can still benefit from good jewels and LA, but otherwise its pretty fair to everyone, and simple to implement.

I am rather new to the game but i have read alot about OP battles as well been told about them in guild chat.. they sound wonderful.. but not something that should be tampered with. instead of trying to do level based OP battles.. which doesnt make much sense... becuase OP are owned by a guild.. maybe try to come up with new ideas that will have almost the same out come.. for example your looking at mass group vs group pvp.. with actual rewards on top of just enjoyment.. I think you guys are to focused on whats in front of you.. for example my cave/dungeon idea isnt really team vs team but could help with a few things.. that feeling of being left out of pvp.. getting rewards for pvp.. getting exp for controlling something while pvp'ing..

now you could do small areas that are more team based pvp. with maybe areas that you have to hold for so long in order to get access to something else.. or a special titles.. digging rights in the area.. special mats that add partical effects to weapons. shields..

these are just ideas thrown around.. but really trying to say do an OP battle with a lvl cap really wouldnt be the same as it is now.. maybe fight over something else .. smaller scale that helps players get use to team battles to work there way up to OP battles.

as bisk says, newbies have a part to play in any op battle and level past 200 in weeks. So I disagree with the fundemental principe of this thread.

alot of new people tho think being useful at an op battle is all about killing people. There are many things you can do besides just cause outright damage.

Yeah like heal someone thats usin ele... or heal someone who is using melee OR heal a high lvl healer... or be cannon fodder and die because you can't kill anyone.

low lvl guilds might acually have a chance to get an OP., as it is now, a high lvl guild(of say 5 ppl that are good at PvP) can hold a lvl 50 OP and 50 lvl 50 ppl wouldn't be able to take it.

As it stands, doesn't really matter to me. always wanted to see OPs added too, but I'v given up hope.

P.S. 5 am... no sleep.. hope this makes sense

Yeah, I think that capping levels for OP battles is not the right thing. Too much at stake, and so forth.

PvP events for newer folks though is a great idea.

BTW, I'm frustrated at the focus on leveling as fast as possible. I'm with Mugendo on this one. Sorry to my very dear friends who are currently racing past me, though I know you do what you do because you enjoy it, and i certainly don't fault you. it's a quiet, personal frustration.

I've been playing daily for 7 months (with one break of three weeks or so) which isn't terribly casual in my world. My highest level at the moment is 172. I'm not going to rush anything.

I see a number of folks running around with higher levels than me but haven't been to this place or that place, don't know the lore, etc etc. I think they are really missing out. Granted, once they get that 250 or two or three and slow down a little, they'll have time to do all that, I suppose. But exploring when practically nothing can hurt you is not the same as exploring when you have to watch and learn and pay attention. (Yes, I know there are always things that can hurt you, I'm speaking in relative terms here.)

Regarding my contribution at the OP battle I attended... I'm sure I helped in some small way. I had fun. I certainly encourage people to attend regardless of how much or little you think of your contribution. But I really didn't learn anything at the battle that I didn't already know from reading and talking to my guildies. As far as learning goes I might as well not have been there. I was just blindly throwing heals.

Do I really have to wait for several more months when I finally get that 250 to do some meaningful PvP? Am i really lazy and unproductive because i'm not topped out after a whole half year? Are people who level fast instead of exploring and learning really "better" than me, more deserving of the "rewards" of battle with other homins?

Don't get me wrong, I'm perfectly happy with my situation, I love this thing and will not be changing or leaving. I can wait for PvP if that's what I have to do. I can always have duels with my friends! ;)

Anyway - there's a piece of my mind. I'll need it back later, as I really can't spare any more...
