Ryzom downloader = bugger

Post by moyaku »

Hey,

Yesterday I had the great privilege to crash one of my 2 clients after downgrading ; so obviously I had to reinstall it :) ... so here I am jumping to the homepage to download a fresh installer and... What a surprise ! No installer ! just that %!/)° ryzom downloader...

This software (sorry to be so direct) actually is crap ! it took me 5 hours and 30 minutes to get those 1.48 gigs and another 15 minutes before the installation actually ended... (and I had to launch the process twice as it didn't work on first try)...

Why can't we just have access to a... let's say... torrent file which would actually get us a good old fashion ryzom client installer ! This use to work properly... how come such a simple process takes so long now that gameforge put his nose in it...

Oh and While I am at it can anyone explain the benefit of a background downloader when all patches require both a server reboot and a client restart... I don't get it...

PS : I meant to post this on general and not on support board cos it s not the technical aspects that bother me most...

files are downloaded from dl1.gfsrv.net server. that server has per connection download limit or something like that as when downloading multiple files at the same time, server can do much more ;-) (~1.4GiB for me took about hour, ~10min for unpacking and Ryzom was ready to go).

original idea of BD was that when trying out game, only ~600MB for silan needs to be downloaded, then when Ryzom was running BD downloaded the rest (mainland) in background.

good idea, sucky implementation.

QFE

I've never had much luck with any Ryzom installers except after multiple attempts.

Imho the client download is what really causes 99.9% of people to turn tail, not the RoS. Even if people are lucky enough to get the game installed it seems like after that a patch not unpacking properly will break it nicely for you...

Which worked for me very well. Ok, I set the priority to low, which lead to te fact, that after the first hours the client was still unfinished. But after that I started the downloader only, high prio, and it was fine.
