Safest to travel in (matis land is the hardest to travel in cause of its high agro population) .

Loads of safe places to dig high Quality mats Right next to the TP so its no problem to get to

Easyist place to level in from 0-200 mobs that give max xp (3k or 6k with cats) for little to no chance of death

Highly populated loads of homins around (and willing) to help.

Very little agro population (once again matis land is the hardest to travel in cause of its high agro population).

Nice market for low and high level weapons jewels armor ect.

Dispite the common rep, for having to swim every where. You only need to swim some where once, just buy a tp when you get there and you never have to swim there again (unless you forget to buy a new tp and run out). I rarely have to swim any where 2 or 3 times a week max.

Until you get Karavan aligned, you cant buy the Lakeland 2ndary town TPs, and if you have positive Kami Fame, the only respawns are Fairhaven, Portal out of Loria, and Portal out of Bounty Beach.. neither practical for starting Homins.. You can still buy the regional TPs, but Lakelands isnt friendly to neutrals or Kami sympathisers. Zoraï also have a bad rep there.. read the Lore.

I like desert for one reason.....I can see very far. A lot of harvesting skill is sneaking to places and leaning how close yu can get to each aggro. Much easier tio do that w/o branches trees and bushes in ya way.
