MOB died after I died before respawn but XP not added !

I noticed something. If I get killed by a MOB but in the process of using DOT (Damage Over Time), I also kill that MOB and on my screen says I gained x number of XP, those XP don't seam to be added to my Death Penalty.

ex : I killed a ragus lvl 5 using Acid DOT who killed me but before I can even click to choose my respawn, I see it dieing and the onscreen message says I have gained 1700 XP points for killing it. Upon respawning, my death penalty is 100%. Currently, when I gain such XP, my death penalty drops by 25-30%.

So why aren't those XP taken in account in my death penalty before I respawn ?


Should I open a bug ticket for this ?

you don't get DP untill you respawn... So you get the XP before you get the DP, thats why your DP is uneffected...

The way you're thinking, Is you get DP as soon as you drop, which is not the case... You have to respawn first, to get DP...

you do not incur death penalty until you are rezzed by the kami or karavan(ie. you respawn). So, if your target dies before you respawn it is working as intended.

Xp earned is better than DP paid off, so you are coming out in front

If it was going towards DP payoff, but you were then rezzed instead of respawning, you would have wasted that XP.

Quick summary of Death Penalty..

DP is calculated when you respawn. it has a value determined by your highest level, and doesnt care what skill you were using when you died, or how many high levels you have.
Max DP is 10 deaths worth. After you reach max DP, further deaths will cut into the amount you have "paid off".
It dissipates naturally over time, and can be accelerated by buying things from teleport altars. The amount of DP you recover instead of earning Xp is related to how high the skill is you would be earning XP for is .. you get back more DP from earning 3000 xp in a level 200 skill than in a level 100 skill.

Ahead ? wasted XP ? We get xp while dead ? I have done any "leveling" in quite a while so, unless I missed something, dead players don't get any XP. If you die in team and aren't rez'd till after mob dies, everyone else gets a little XP boost cause the amount of shared xp is divided by a smaller number.

Maybe you do when you manage to damage the target while you are already dead. Who knows ^^

my guess is that when you are 'killed' it resets your 'participation' in the fight, removing you from the XP calculation.
But if you then do more damage after death, say using Bleed or delayed DoT in this case, it puts you back into the XP calc.
The next interesting thing to try is finding out if rezzing resets the XP calc as well - the hard part would be to avoid damaging the mob after being rezzed..and still killing it.

Well actualy 2 things :


1) last week, I had the same situation (died and right after MOB died because of DOT damages) but one thing was different, as soon as the MOB died, I leveled up and I automaticly got revived because of that. I was surprised.

2) I wonder if next time this happenes, if I click respawn before the MOB actualy dies, will I loose the XP I would gain if I was sure it is going to die upon me respawning or does the game somehow forgets about him ? I mean as soon as I respawn, the death penalty is already counted but will the XP be added from the MOB that would die just there right after ?
