Visual clues in Harvesting

Post by lyrah68 »

Ok in the spirit of exploration, and to have a better knoweldge of the game and ALL its races, I tried out Matis.

Now I was comfortable with my level 40 Fyros forager, maybe a bit TOO comfy. Maybe that was why I tried Matis.

Tryker is a bit harder than Fyros, cluewise, I had to ramp up the micro vegitation to about 50% to find the "jellyfish", and in Fyros lands the clue is the brown pebbly "scrubby" spots(with micro Vegitation set at 10%).

But for the LIFE of me, I ramped the MV from OFF to 100% and I could NOT find any clues in Matis newbland. And the thought of running from tree to tree and just GUESSING...well, sorry that thought just makes me SICK.

SO...if you have a clue as to what I should be looking for in Matis lands...I would GREATLY appreciate your input. I would also like the input on the Masked race, even though I don't play one...others do, and they could use the info.

Thanks in advance and may your nodes never destroy on you. *bow*

With "deposit tracking" finding sources in any lands is relatively easy.

..finding the quality of mat you want however, is not. Go basic!

It's a lot easier to just run up to a spot where you know there is some material that you need. However, you will need some visual ques to help you remember where the spot is. I'm sorry to hear this is a bit of a problem in Matis.

Well in Matis lands, I would get it, but in Fyros lands...tracking is pretty much a WASTE of sp. Once you get a few friends, and swap a few locations, and understand the Pink and Green or brown Freckles/pebbles thing, you can save the SP for faster and gentler extraction modes. And as a result, spend LESS time running around looking for a node to replace the one you just blew up with all Harmful extraction.

I upgraded to Agressive speed two or is it three now...I forget, and gentle quality 3 which goes to Q50, and now I am a digging diva. I can mine the FULL number of units in one node, turn to the right or left a bit and mine those nodes to empty.

And concidering how fast items wear out...we need ALL the help we can get.

But I still agree, I might even get tracking on my Tryker. Even though tracking tracks ANY node, including depleted ones and lands you on TOP of it.

I FOUND the Matis visual clue. I will be playing my Matis, conviently named *drum roll* Lyrah, for the next week or two. I will GLADLY show ANY harvester that comes to the town I am at what I found to be the clue, just send a tell.

The Clue I found (others disagree and say it is different for different mats...and they COULD be right) is a two pointed leaf, NOT an oak leaf or maple, but like the African war lances (like Shaka Zulu had). And this being FALL in Matis lands, they are RED in color (ok redish brown, but fall leaf color none the less).

I found seeds, fiber, resin, oil and sap in these nodes thus marked. I have found grades from Basic to Choice (since Lyrah is STILL on Noobland that is all the higher I can look for).

I have been and ever WILL be, ready and willing to help ANYONE that is frustrated and wants to find the clues.

IF any Zori have ANY info on THEIR clues...PLEASE share with us all.

And Harvest tracking is STILL an exercise in frustration for me. I lag a bit and it is like an overseas call on Sat video phone (delayed a few seconds) where we are playing Hotter colder game. By the time I get the 15 meters when I WAS 12 meters, I am already 20 meters away.

IF it stated direction...it would be MUCH more useful. THIS ONE skill is probably the LEAST realistic skill in game. A geologist would be able to almost SMELL what they were looking for, and SEE details ON the SURFACE that would lead them right to the spot to dig.

Since I found the Matis visual clues...I did NOT buy it on my Matis...and will not UNTIL I get her to mainland too....which will BE a while.

Tracking is NOT that useful.

I'm a Zorai, and haven't found any visual clues yet. Tracking is the way I find what I need, but it is very annoying to use. I agree with the people who have said there needs to be a directional aspect to this skill. I've followed the tips given by some people, and have had limited success. They say to run in a straight line until the distance stops going down. Then turn 90 degrees and walk until you are there. Although logically this should work, it just doesn't seem to. Maybe it's because the distance only updates every 2 seconds, so by the time you read it, you're already past the distance it said you were at.

The fix should do one or both of the following:

1. Give a direction along with distance
2. Update the distance much more often so accurate tracking is possible

I agree Green. I have moved on to Pyr and have found I have to rely on two things, a good batch of helpful more experienced foragers passing on their knoweldge as they move on to higher nodes, and tracking. I find that it tracks DEAD nodes, excellent nodes that are "nothing here at the moment" and LOTS of basic.

It almost seems to me that Basic has a higher priority than choice. I found a field with both choice and basic and stood right in front of the choice, according to how it is SUPPOSED to work it should have said "closer than 1m end prospecting" BUT it took me to a basic node five meters away *boggle*.

I hope this issue is one of the things that is fixed in patch one. I am probably hanging WAY too many stars on this patch one. But if only half of what I hope is fixed is in that patch...I will be happy.

Green I also tried a Zorai and found it frustrating to say the least. Not sure why that race didn't fit me, my play style I suppose, but it just wasn't me. I do like the fashions from there tho.

Just in the spirit of exploration, and just because I am stubborn as a MULE. I rolled up a Zoari test character, with every plan of deleting him, but maybe he will see the light of day.

I went around and asked as well. It seems that the experienced Zorai believe that the clue is a silver roundish leaf, almost like a silver sand dollar or sea shell. I also heard something about a mushroom, and I DID find them, very very VERY tiny (about the size of a real life white mushroom or a silver dollar). I tested the leaf/sand dollar thing, Five for five and several "not with your skill" in other words either fine grade or Choice grade. The shrooms I had a BIT different luck, but then I was level SIX when I left town for this test, so my prospect was VERY near sighted. I could have been standing ON the node, or needed to turn a bit to the left or right to find it.

OK to recap the clues:
Fyros: Freckles or brown pebbly spots
Tryker: Jellyfish or melted gummi bear globs
Matis: red elm leaf (color is CONFIRMED to change with seasons, so MARK those nodes while you can find the clues)
Zorai: silver leaf, more rounded, like an aspen leaf and possibly a tiny mushroom. (I suspect that this clue changes color with seasons as well, since the terran is MARKEDLY different during seasons. While Tryker and Fyros are only SLIGHTLY different and their clues do NOT change).

There was a little bit of debate about whether or not the clues are helpful, or even varifiable. To me that doesn't matter, what matters IS, that MANY find this clue helpful.

ALSO there was debate about whether or not ALL nodes are under, around, or even NEAR a clue. This again does not matter to me. YES some nodes are WAY out away from ANY clue. The clues are almost always where a node is. Once you get higher level, and have tracking, feel FREE to find those UNclued nodes and enjoy your privacy.

Main reason I looked for clues is that I heard MANY people chatting in Fyros noobie region chat moaning about how HARD it was to level forager. I felt the need to help them, if I could. The clue DID help, several of the moaners are now in Pyr area thriving as both crafters AND Foragers. One or two of them zipped past me and beat me to the mainland.

If you think that the clues are BAH HUMBUG and fiddle faddle and rott, feel free to stumble around and blindly aim at ANYTHING you want to. I just found it helpful to have SOME idea as to where to look, other than Over there, by that tree/bush/cliff face/some other vague direction/landmark.

To me, NOTHING was more useless than the advice of "around that tree" in Matis lands. *groans* there are only 50 billion trees there.
