Suggestion concerning Uni chat (and Feedback forum)

Post by tassyt »

Well, I'm sooo new I can't even post in the Feedback forum, so I'm posting my (now two bits of) feedback here:

1. Even new paying subscribers should be able to post in the Feedback forum.

2. Universal chat should be changed. I'm not quite sure how it should be changed, but right now it vacillates between discussion and Q&A, with CSRs having to often spend their time babysitting those who want to use the channel to discuss general stuff.

There are enough people who want to discuss things in a universal channel that it justifies one being made available. I think Uni should be used for just that. I think those who want to shut Uni off should be able to do so - so they don't get bombarded with general discussion they don't want to see. (Right now, even those who don't want general discussion, but do want Q&A, will probably leave the channel active.)

A Support channel should be added just for Q&A.

Now here's the questions: should only CSRs be able to see player communications in a Support channel, and then reply in tells? That would absolutely keep non-Q&A discussion to a minimum, however, it would also keep non-CSRs from helping answer questions. If everyone could see and reply to Support channel communication, then would a separate Universal chat be enough to keep the discussers happy, and out of the Q&A channel?

Of course, great game! This is just a suggestion for perceived improvement.

First off - Welcome to Ryzom!

There was a very long period of time where ryzom didnt have a universe channel. People spoke to other just fine. I find that genersally pseaking most of the chat in uni is usefull so having a private one would not work so well. I guess thats why there is a support button where you submit tickets that go direct to CSR's. Also if you need a CSR most of them dont mind if you send them a tell anyway :)

I think people just need to have a bit more self-policing. Its not hard to not type...

I think with regards to a general universe-style chat channel - people cant use a channel that has basic rules in, how are the devs supposed to trust them when theres alot less rule not to violate CoC. Plus i think spoilers would also be a problem. If people can chat about anything then surley people will eventually read somthing they dont want to.

No i dea why you cant talk in feedback *shrug*

The feedback forum is used to give feedback about specific topics; upcoming patch ideas, mechanic changes and so on. Since this is the purpose of the that forum then all feedback will be about *something* coming up. We can post there, in reply to other threads.

Anything that we need to give feedback about that does not already have a thread in the feedback forum we can do here (to get others opionions added to ours), in-game (using the support ticket system) or in klients and emails.

This may not be the best solution, as the name feedback implies that any feedback will be welcome. Unfortunatly, people have a habit of posting off-topic nonsense in any place that they can.

Universe chat also has a very specific goal. Not everyone agrees with it (I would love for there to be a universe channel for chat and one for questions and answers) and not everyone adheres to the rules. At this moment in time, the csr team can not be online 24 hours of the day, and so Universe chat can quickly descend into chatter that doesn't not help anyone.

However, when everything is running smoothly universe chat is the quickest place to get your questions answered by someone. Sometimes a question will invoke a discussion ("should I get acid dot or just acid?" was one from the other day). When this happens properly the question is not only answered, but everyone learns something about why some people think "sure, why not" and others don't. This can only be a help more than a hinderance, and it would be a shame to segregate that aspect of universe away to it's own little corner.

But this still means that, at times, we have to police ourselves. discussions about anything can start dragging on too long. Often it only requires a slight prod to get people to remember they are clogging up the channel.
