Hi my husband and I both have registered accounts, 2 pc's, and we are using a Linksys RT31P2 router, connected to Cable 1 mb/s connection. I have tried the port forwarding, port triggering, and even configuring the router to DMZ for both IPs and still I've noticed we both end up crashing and the router reboots itself every 30 minutes. I've set it to open with Direct3D, dropped our graphics settings to low on everything for both of us, this has made no difference.
I went so far as to manually enter each port the game uses for each IP. Still to no avail. I've found a firmware upgrade and followed instructions to install it, still no difference, and made sure our vid drivers are up to date and they're very stable. I'm at a loss, I don't know what to do from here.
I know that my router uses NAT which sends out 1 public IP from the multiples coming into the router, could this be an issue with 2 pc's and 2 seperate connections to your server? Do many people use multiple pc's through 1 connection or maybe if you've resolved this issue before, I sure could use some help.
Also, I originally only did the 'light' install and download on the game for both pc's, right now I'm downloading and installing the full install. I don't know if that makes a difference, but at this point, it's the only thing I -haven't- tried.
My PC Specs: 2.8 ghz, 512 MB RAM, GeForce FX 5200, XP Home
His PC Specs: 1.8 ghz, 512 MB RAM, Geforce MX 4000, XP PRO
Totally Stumped,
Pfhoenix

Re: Router reboots every 30 mins/disconnect
I had a similar issue with a LinkSys router some time ago, where it rebooted after some time; this did happen during gameplay and during larger uploads, surfing the web didn't crash it.
The issue with this model (BEFSR41SX) was a really bad firmware; it crashed more frequently when logging was enabled, I guess due to some memory overflow... sooo while this isn't exactly the model you use, upgrading firmware *might* help, as might disabling the log feature.
I'm still using the same router and haven't had any problems for almost two years now... just don't ask me where I got the firmware from, it was some piece of beta software. I seem to remember there was a forum where LS employees posted their own versions of the firmware, but I don't have any bookmarks anymore

Re: Router reboots every 30 mins/disconnect
Does the crashing occur when only one is playing as well ?
If you reset the router, doesn't your game resume ?
Is the router overheating/resetting due to thruput limits or packet conflicts ?
Without more specifics it's hard to point to anything other than the router.

Re: Router reboots every 30 mins/disconnect
No, running two clients on the same network through NAT isn't a problem, many players do it on a regular basis. The symptoms you describe on your router lead me to believe you might have better results contacting Linksys tech support to resolve your router reboots. Then from there we can see if there is anything else we can do to make your gaming experience more stable and enjoyable.pfhoenix7769 wrote: I know that my router uses NAT which sends out 1 public IP from the multiples coming into the router, could this be an issue with 2 pc's and 2 seperate connections to your server? A quick Google for "RT31P2 reboots" gets a number of links to the official Vonage forums,
so this is a known issue with the router. Getting in touch with with either Linksys or Vonage tech support is the way to go.

Re: Router reboots every 30 mins/disconnect
Well, after many trials of port triggering and forwarding I decided to set my router back to default settings and start over, now it's forwarded properly. Now it doesn't reboot, -thankfully- but we still have the problem of 1 computer or the other will have an extremely unstable connection. It will do a "Please Wait" and freeze there. When the person who crashes tries to log back in, it says they're online still.. And now this -only- happens when we both try to play at the same time. I can play for hours uninterrupted by myself.
Back to the drawing board.. lol

Re: Router reboots every 30 mins/disconnect
Not to insult your troubleshoting ability, but something doesn't seem right somewhere. Is there any chance your computers are sharing the same internal network address ?
Use the "IPCONFIG" command with a DOS prompt to verify your addresses are not the same.
If your forwarding as you suggest (you may not need to) to address #1, then address #2 may not get data sent back intended for that system.

Having checked this, ensure your router is not forwarding to either (can the other comp play for hours uninterrupted ?). You can also see your internal network settings using your router, check the DHCP Client Table.Microsoft Windows [Version 6.0.6000]
