Strangest water texture I've ever seen.

Post by zelee »

I played RoS about a year ago (before exp cap), then I had to get rid of the game because of disk space. Now I came back and of course, I had to visit my favourite place - the Shining lake. Much to my dismay, water texture changed a bit since the time I've been there last.

Now it looks like this: http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/1597 ... 006tr8.jpg

Yes, there are arrows painted all over the water. Looks like a temporary texture used to ensure a seamless connection of texture tiles, or something like that. I'm pretty much sure I shouldn't be seeing it.

Any idea what went wrong and how can I repair it to see the correct water texture?

Looking at your icons you have video issues, you need to be sure video drivers and DirectX are up to date and also try changing between OpenGL and DX modes.

It's not video issues, it's glass mozaic photoshop filter, just like in chat and nick. :-) The char is not mine and friend asked me to obscure his icons and chat.

Anyway, I was visiting the city of Silan yesterday, and... http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/206/silanbj4.jpg

I'm beginning to think it's an issue with new installer - that perhaps someone forgot to include correct textures in basic Silan install. I don't currently have enough disk space to install the rest of game to verify it, though... I'll see next month, as I'm getting bigger hard disk then. :-)

Try this: Load up Ryzom to the part where you are prompted to log in using your Username and Password. In the middle of the screen, click on the Game Configuration button. On the new screen that pops up, select the Display tab, and under the Driver section, select Direct3D mode. At the bottom, hit OK so you can save, then Play Ryzom. Let the game relaunch, and check to see if you are still missing textures.

If the above did not fix your issue, repeat but select OpenGL instead. If both of these selections still do not work, open your program directory for Ryzom (example: C:\Program Files\Ryzom) and launch the client_background_downloader_rd.exe and select the Fix option.

Best of luck!

Thanks! :) It didn't work, not even repairing the install, I still see arrows. But nevermind, I'll be getting full installer next month, anyway. Should be OK then.

The arrows are a kind of "missing texture" texture... they point to the top of where the texture should start and show how it's morphed across the surface. That doesn't really help you fix it but its an explanation :o

solved

OK, so it's as I expected - after patching my client to full, missing textures are in place finally. Both ruins and water finally look as they are supposed to. Thanks all :-)

Mainland, here I come... :-)
