solo play?

Post by jraake »

Is this game supposed to be this frustrating for someone to play solo? I am so low of a level that I don't group with people, let alone know how to find a group. I am trying to level up as a caster. I got to 50 so far, but its been frustrating, except for the times I had heals from a couple high level players.

Is it any easier to level up with melee first, that way you get plenty of HPs and Armor to make you last longer?

Yes, I'm new at the game. No, I don't think I'm doing anything wrong. I'm wearing light armor and I'm using a fairly good amp.

U hit the right spot with this, i also tryed and lvl as a caster first solo... but that wouldnt work out so i went to lvl up my melee, got much hp from it and in the end i could wear better La, since the higher lvl, and solo way easier.

In the low levels it is much easier to work first the melee untill your HP is higher and then continue with magic. The game, indeed, doesn't encourage specifically soloing. Still on Silan soloing is very agreeable and fun and you can very fast go up to level 40-50 in both melee and magic.
On the mainland it is harder mainly because the game is a lot about exploration, unless you find afreind to show you, you have to figure out on your own where are the good areas to hunt efficiently. But soloing is not impossible with most proffessions (some exceptions can be quoted) and least of all with elemental magic that has one of the most serious damage in game.

From what I've seen people who have problems usually treat elemental as if it were a closed combat fight expecting to be punched, scratched, biten etc by different mobs and still kill them. While elemental usually is about ranged combat (even if "ranged" in game is kept for a totally different type of fight). So it is very much about computing how many hits you need for a certain type of mob hence how far you should be from it when throwing first cast.

The hardest part of soloing is sitting and waiting for your pools to replenish. It takes a certain kind of temperament to go through this without either giving up or searching more thoroughly for team (or at least a healer), but I have known soloers going from level 1 to 220 or so completely alone.

Wouldn't say I agree with that entirely. It IS possible to level solo (except heal), it's just EASIER to do it in a team. Team play has advantages over solo.

With a team, you can hunt faster because you don't have to wait for your HP/Sap/Stam to replenish, you just heal each other. In general you can also take on tougher mobs for more XP (although if you're getting 3k solo, then you wont get more in a team ;) ).

You also have someone to talk to in a team. This is a multiplayer game so a large element is team work and community.

There's a very good community out there in the world of Atys, feel free to join us. :D

I solo 90% of the time i play, digging and crafting are perfect examples of solo playing, getting to lvl 210 ish in melee is very easy solo (gets more complex after that) ranged is a great skill to solo too, i dont think soloing is a hard thing to do, but you need to know what to hunt and having the right equipment.

Also consider having 2 spells to cast. First one that you cast once or twice from max range(50M or so).Second for when the MoB is closer using mostly sap and few hit points.-Kil

also get a higher level player to team with you and work close combat, or afflictions or something else low that they have, and heal you in between fights. this is a good way for newer players to gain levels in reletive safety.

You get answer alrdy that melee is a must for caster due to higher HP.

Another way to lvl caster solo: use fear..
Cast one or two elem spell, fear mob away and elem again.. should keep mob away from you.
Tho, the top lvling and fun in this game remains teaming :p no downtime, make new friends and so on..

Tho this game is hard at start i hae to agree with you: I nearly quitted it myself when I started after 30 to 40 lvls: In Sept 04 :)

sure its easy for US. Those with some 250´s alrdy means max hp, sap, stam. Peace of cake to get melee to lvl 200. But someone with no 250´s and 3k hp or something it aint that easy.
