I just have to pin a note to this thread to brag on one RPer.
During the 2+ months I knew him (including well over a dozen treks), whether in guild chat or private tell, whether chit-chatting, discussing the mechanics of ranged combat or respawning in the middle of the Worst Trek Ever, Beefy never ever went out of character. Ever. I have never seen anything like it.
It was also interesting to see how this smoothed some situations. Among his in-character treking macros was "Friends run to Beefy! Quickly!". Now I have tried to come up with something that is OC but just as to-the-point and equally non-bossy, but without success.
At any rate, I have seen that it's possible.
And yeah, Beefy is greatly missed.

Roleplaying in Cities and Villages
Re: Roleplaying in Cities and Villages
That guild list is pretty good I personally think, but it just seems from what I've heard there are loads of roleplayers littered around. Oh and tr808, it's hard not to see that as a flame, I never did claim I knew everything about roleplaying on atys, this is what I have seen in my month here, also since when have I been picky about anything? It's quite standard practice for roleplayers to not want smilies or l33t text in their chatscreen when they're trying to roleplay, as for the "Stop playing MMORPG then" well.... All I can say really is sod off, I don't like those kind of comments especially when your telling me to not take it as a flame since you are being completely hypocritical, if you don't like my opinion find a constructive way to argue against it like others have instead of making stupid comments.
Re: Roleplaying in Cities and Villages
Well i stay to my point i think u are looking for some utopia u will never find, u cant dictate people how to play a game and if u get offedend by some1 saying LOL imho u should rethink if u want to get anoyed everytime some1 in a MMORPG says LOL... cuz that will happen a lot everday.... i dont even consider it as 1337 speak even more, it is almost everday language nowadays.

I never have tried to dictated someone's play style, I never have gotten offended by someone saying lol, stop trying to make stuff up and just generally trying to ruin the thread, your just making yourself look like a jerk.

Now honestly this is me trying hard to roleplay regardless of whether the person is ooc or IC but to be honest, when the player makes no effort at all then that's what gets me annoyed and driven away from the idea of roleplaying on MMORPG's I did try, but as you can see, he just wasn't paying any attention though I have to admit, he was a lot more polite than some other players I've met who are just completely ooc on other MMORPG's like WoW and such.
Want it any clearer? ill leave the tread now....

Re: Roleplaying in Cities and Villages
I'm not much of a roleplayer myself, but here are some of my thoughts:
I see no reason why talking about a guild is considered out of character.
If somebody mentiones something from outside the game, just act all mystified, and say something along the lines of:
"London, eh? where is that? must be further away than pyr!"
as for n00bsp33k, rolepay or not, I think andbody who uses that shoul be taken out and and shot, and then fed to the cutes.

Agreed. House Etchmarc exists as a Kingdom recognized "guild" by the Registar of Yrkanis, because the new kingdoms don't function with the social hierarchy that (may have been/was) in place before the Great Swarming.japamala wrote:I see no reason why talking about a guild is considered out of character.
In fact, we have both an IC and OOC introduction posted on the Arispotle Guild forum specifically because of that.
I'm also a bit sorry we were so hard to find. *winks* For more than a few members, it has been Finals weeks!, and loads of papers due. For my part, I'm on quite a bit...
There is a thread about Homin telepathy. There is a IC posting about House Etchmarc. Combine those things, and that is veritable permission to contact someone like Jeziellia IC via /tell. In fact. Feonix did just that, to ask "Officer" Jeziellia some questions about the House in regards to the House's "Neutral" status. *grins*
That's actually something I'll be addressing soon in my segment on Beau's Podcast. (The IC contact via /tells, that is.)
As to the rest of this thread;
Frakel has shown absolutely wonderful mastery of a Ring Scenario - changing NPCs and basic design. The recent events happening in Jez's life have been semi-GM'd by him, and it's been nothing short of fantastic. Now I know what the Ring really can do.
Having a pub there, open to EVERYONE is a good idea. And to let new players know about it - that's always been the hard part.
Get some heralds out there to announce the pub's opening in all of the cities. You know, the good old "Hear ye, Hear ye" type thing. (Except probably minus the "ye"? "Good homins! And the bad ones too!" might work. *wink*)
You could have other players (with empty slots) make wait staff to handle individual rp, and have NPC staff on hand...
Don't look at me. I'm an idea person. *shifty look*

A few comments on previous things in this thread:
() Roleplayer Hate
- now here is a term that makes me sad. Fortunately I have only experienced it once in my 7 months on Atys. I allways approach others in character, perhabs even giving the RP a notch more than most - just to signal to people that I like to RP and giving them a chance to play along. If people do then thats great - if not I respect that and have no problem continuing the conversation OOC in a /tell. I would never go out of character in a public channel though. It is also my experience that most other players respect dedicated RPers here and either respond IC (even if they dont usually RP that much) or at least enjoy chatting along OOC in a /tell.
EDIT: Removed something that really wasnt all that constructive
() Bubble communities
- I play Ryzom for the RP. I enjoy the other aspects of the game as well, but Im here for the RP. And while I do my best to get in touch with other players and hopefully draw them into the wonderfull world of RP in Ryzom, I think no one will blame me for also actively seeking up and spending time with the people I do know to enjoy RPing. This is not because I want to exclude anyone else, or because I regard other types of players or playstyles as being below RP in any way. I just prefer to be spend my game time around people who enjoy RP as much as I - since this gives me a better, more immersive game experience.
- I have set up a few RP events and ring scenarios involving only a few players (and thanks for your appreciation Jenna ) - and I do agree that this kind of behavior does make it hard for others to get in touch. But some events are simply more fitting to a smaller audience. The story of the apparent death of Mercellus for one would not have been fitting in a scenario or storyline involving 20-30 players. Smaller events has an intimacy to offer that larger events cant ever hope to capture.
() Community Wide RP events (i.e. Pub Nights)
So - while not abandoning the smaller events I think something like this would be a good idea - a fine way to help RPers and the casual player wanting to socialize after a hard day of grind get in touch with each other. A pub night wont be a hard thing to organize - unlike such ambitious setups as the comming Festival of Light (bows to Riveit), you basically only has to pick a place and a time - and spread the word here on forums and ingame - perhabs through shouters as Jenna suggested.
@roles3: Being a member of House Etchmarc you allready has the first links in the network - IC as well as OOC. Getting in touch with others who wants to help you organize this wont prove too hard I suspect. I dare you to take this on - this is indeed a thing currently missing on Atys, but why shouldnt it be you that organized it? . You could even create a Fyros alt, name him akin to the barman in Thesos and put yourself up as a relative. There - you have all the IC reasons you would need to set up a pub night ...
I would advice against using the Ring for a pub evening though:
- stability issues
- dependance on a host (unable to continue the party across timezones as the hosts gets tired )
- setting (no building in the ring has yet to offer the same splendor as such locations as the Thesos Bar or some of the locations in Pyr or Yrkanis).
Zandryok allready tried this with his Firewine Springs location. Sadly I think Im one of the few players from Arispotle to ever visit that beautiful place. And while he put together a really, really nice scenario, the simple lack of such things as proper building structures in the Ring just doesnt give the same feeling as being in one of mainland bar locations.

Re: Roleplaying in Cities and Villages
Agreed. I have been using the Ring for quite some time to produce auxillary locations for the House when ever it was necessary or possibly needed. Without the actual means to build a 'structure', there is very little 'home' feeling to the goings on. Psycologically, it still leaves your characters open to the elements and there for is even less comfortable than normal.
