It seems many players have beene experiancing random connectivity issues with both the ingame servers and patching system. This is being looking into and hopefully fixed within a timely matter. Sorry for the inconvenience.

well, making it possbile to toggle background patcher thru ryzom configuration would help a lot (silan should of thought already, not everyone can read instuctions). just add new checkbox under general/advanced

.. and other thing that may make background downloader act weird... enabled it atm, and sure enough i get "Starting patcher/shutting down patcher" messages and patcher does not respond when clicking taskbar icon. turns out that one of telia routers is failing again. so in short: patcher only works in low ping situations (to make patcher start new thread that talks to ryzom main process that will not halt when trying to connect to patch server would be start)

If you are still having problems here is a solution that has worked in a lot of cases:

close the Ryzom client
press ctrl, alt, delete and choose the processes tab, locate background patcher highlight it and end process.

Click start
click run
type cmd and hit enter
in the dos box that opens type: ipconfig /flushdns
hit enter.

close the cmd page and restart the client

well scratch that, the patcher worked, but when asked to restart the client, i ran into the same problem this guy has, and i originally had in this thread: http://forums.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=29386. the flushdns didnt work..
