maryen wrote:jamela, do not use wine 0.9.31 to install the game, it will always crash because of a regression in its msi handling. I've created a new version http://rapidshare.com/files/18190776/Rally_v1.1.tar.gz (Rally v1.1)
I modified it a bit, source ryzom_linux_installer_070226.tgz and installer script ryzom_linux_installer_070226.run
(use 'sh ryzom_linux_installer_070226.run' to run it)

i removed wine download/install/reinstall for ubuntu (sorry). hopefully 0.9.32 is out soon and fixes this msi problem.
if it detects wine-0.9.31, then it shows warning and what needs to be done to get/install Wine 0.9.30 in ubuntu. it still continues to it's doom tho.

i also removed most of command line switches and only left --uninstall and --help (tho, --help shows old info ;-)

script is mostly untested as i run wine 0.9.31 ;-)

Feel free to use this as you like. It's your idea afterall ;-) (and great one. i'm sure it helps lot of ppl)

maryen, thanks for spotting my *cough* deliberate mistake :) and working through it so thoroughly. Hopefully I'll be able to try again tonight or tomorrow.

It's very encouraging to see so many people trying and playing Ryzom on linux.

well, right now, I'm not really sure how to use it. I've only known what I know about bash scripting for a couple of days, and yesterday I started rewriting the script in python (which I started learning yesterday) but this is much more efficient, it would be a waste for me to alter it right now. :) I need to learn more about programming before I can add more to it, but once I do, maybe I can add a ui to this and make a ui for the config file (since the program that does it normally does not like wine atm).

Any idea where I can get some good info on python scripting?

No problem. Hopefully your default color depth is the problem with your game and it will be easy to fix. It seems like everyone sets color depth at 16 automatically for some reason.

well i was using your latest with --ubuntu but kinda cheated it to speed things up.. I didnt feel like downloading installer and patching so i shorted it during download of patcher n moved my ryzom folder from win, but missed some chmod in folders. just tossed the new config file in ryzom folder..chmod all files n folders and off i went.

I think my hardest hurdle was finding a distibution that ati drivers worked well with.. I fought with openSuSE for 2 days then tried ubuntu. installing ryzom was cake after that.

ryzom config runs just fine. there is just one dll missing (dont ask which one, i dont remember ;-)

anyway, i updated my version a bit (patch.pl is runned on startup when needed, invisible cursor should not happen when wine is running winXp mode, small things ;-)
if anyone wants, then here it is ryzom_linux_installer_070228.run
download and run with "sh ryzom_linux_installer_070228.run" in xterm (or other)
same link with .tgz instead .run for source (or run with --help and see how to unpack the .run file)

update on msi problem: Wine 0.9.32 should run installer fine (CVS does already).

Is it actually advisable to run it in anything other than Win98 mode? There was, a while back at least, a problem that made Ryzom lag intermittently unless in Win98 mode. Was that fixed in a newer version of Wine?

i'm running in winxp mode because some other win programs require it.
no problem with Ryzom that i can see (just invisible cursor, but that can be fixed).

slowdown was from msvcrt.dll and it's still slower than native dll.

After running ryzom_linux_installer_070226.run and installing, I got it to open once, but after downloading the patches, it won't open.

I tried running both the patch.pl and the patch.sh, and both of them return a can't find file error on line 3.

what am I doing wrong?
