"Two Germans and a Texan"
That's right, Sam is back and has brought his friend Pixie to talk about...*gulp* the differences and similarities between WoW and Ryzom. Like we say, you can't ignore the 800 pound gorilla, or you wind up with poo on you!
Again, we are stepping into a new chapter at the 'cast: recording more than two! There are several difficulties when dealing with a conference type recording, such as lag, dropped calls, stuff like that. We have a few of these difficulties, but it doesn't stop us from having a great time! Watch your volume too, because it might go up and down (when we start laughing like school children!)
This is a special, LONG episode for all you players, so sit back, open some Tryker wine and give a listen!

hey Beau! Thanks for all the work you put into this! You really add a lot to the the community and the whole 'Ryzom experience'. I know sometimes the technicalities of producing the audio track can be a drag, but keep up the good work!

Re: The Ryzom Podcast number 7!
It was an interesting reference Acridiel raised concerning the Males who RP females. I wonder if the girl who objected was alone in her views ?. Maybe a point worth more discussion, I am curious now
A nice Podcast from the three participants, thankyou.

Re: The Ryzom Podcast number 7!
Okay after listening I have a few comments
First thing, oh no, not more WoW talk!! For someone who's never intended to get involved in the WoW universe I know way more about it then I have a right to... But I get why it was brought to the show.
The quest thing, as a newbie and a lover of lore and story I'd really love to see more written to the world of Atys. Please don't misunderstand that as adding more quests in the genre or WoW, EQ and ect.... I don't like how those quests are setup, they become tedious, annoying and make you feel empty inside, for the very reason that after some pretty easy kills you get named Savior of The Realm... I mean how much sense does that make? In a single player game that's perfectly acceptable, but when you play with thousands of people and everyone's a Savior, you would think the world would be pretty darn safe by now?
So I say yay to more immersive and extensive lore added to the game, yes there's lots now, but there could be more, and nay to mindless 'questing'.
The girl thing... Well I'm a girl so here's my opinion, first thing that gets on my nerves is the insta drool effect you get from male players sometimes once you announce you are indeed female. As stated in the podcast, it's a game we come here to play, make some FRIENDS, not boyfriends and live the adventure. I never make it a secret which gender I am, I don't expect any different treatment then anyone else and I don't want to feel like I have to play a male character just to be viewed as an equal, and not someome to be lavished on just because I have RL boobies. Now, now I'm not saying friendly flirting is all wrong either, I am quite guilty of it myself, but then again I am that way with just about anyone.... O.O
Also, if you want to cyber date, honestly there's lots of places online where you can do that.... Of course you may have to prove your age... he he. On that note I tend not to accept anything free from anyone, unless it's a guild mate and I know I can pay them back somehow.
I enjoy playing female characters and I wouldn't feel comfortable playing as a male, that said I know many women/girls who enjoy playing as guys, and that's fine, I don't see any problem with that at all. Same goes with guys who want to play as women. So what? Again it's a game, why should RL gender make any difference? This is a virtual world where one can do what they want to, not what life has propelled unto them, you don't have to deal, you can just create. That's the beauty of playing games. So treat everyone the same, if you are kind to one gender, then be kind and treat the gender the same, or genders who knows what games will give us in the future.. lol

Haz, I'm not sure if you can comment without logging in on my blogs...if it's an issue do not worry about it! You have already made me feel good with your listening!
And thank you guys for understanding why we needed to talk about this. I did not want it to be abash or a "versus" thing, but just an educational one...one that shows that even compared to a HUGE million-player base game that Ryzom still shines through, with it's uniqueness, it's story, gameplay and killer community. I cannot tell you now how many time I might log into one of my other games to say hi to friends and almost immediately I start to miss Ryzom. I had to report 3 people the other night, for using racist language over and over, and it took and hour and a half before a GM came and talked to me. In Ryzom, the community polices itself, and has gm's (even when they are down to a few) that will respond to problems QUICKLY.
As far as girl gamers, I feel what they are saying. There is a whole section of players that are girls, that have played for as long if not longer, and are just as passionate about their worlds as us boys. My wife is one of them. BOys will be boys, I guess, so some treatment can only be stopped by saying "buzz off" lol
Thanks for listening!
Beau

Re: The Ryzom Podcast number 7!
Hey Beau!
First of all I want to thank you for yet another great podcast! This time however, I didn't listen to it playing Ryzom but working thus giving it my full attention
I'd want to start out by saying the podcast is phenomenal and using Sam as your co-host is super. I would say I got into playing Ryzom partly by listening to your first podcasts, or the other way around (chicken or the egg). What I really did like about you cast was that you had a similar perspective to the game as myself, being a newb. Introducing MadSam to the series probably made the content more interesting to the veteran players since he does know what he's talking about, no offense
On the other hand I still found it very neat to still have you, Beau, as the main guy and MadSam as the "crazy German" with the neat RP-ish perspective on the game. And having a guest in this podcast, Pixie, brought a bit of fresh air into the podcast. BUT! I think that you (still Beau) got a little set aside this time leaving most of the thinking to the two players from the German community to chatter on about WoW and Ryzom. I might be wrong, but that was my general feeling when listening to the podcast.
As a finale on this post I'd like to give a suggestion on something to bring up in further podcasts (aside from making it available for subscription through XML/RSS ). Since you got members from more than the English speaking community as your co-host, why not try bringing forth whats going on more specific on the both forums. This would not only give the listeners a brief look at what's going on in the communities but also a look at the other language community (German) possibly bridging the "gap" between the two slightly.
Anyways, I like the show and both Beau and MadSam as host and co-host. Just wanted to give my brief notes on my thoughts on the (7'th) show and I am definitely looking forward for upcoming episodes. Keep it up guys!
