All the starting areas have their pros and cons.
One thing to consider is that if you like crafting, you need to talk to your racial crafting trainer to learn better skills or new plans. You can learn the other races basic starting crafting skills for 50 skillpoints, and then you need to improve that races craft skill and learn that races plans separately, which takes a lot of points, and is very hard for a starting crafter.
I personally like crafting, so I would recommend starting in your own race's city. Once you get there, it shouldn't be difficult to get someone to take you to the other lands. If you're on Arispotle, let me know and I'll take you, for that matter. Just /tell Kedino. If you're on Cho, maybe Beefy can help?
And of course, once you've been somewhere, you can get a teleport pact so you can return anytime.
Still, my biggest recommendation would be to not hurry too much... Stay on Silan as long as you like, take the time to enjoy it, then come to the mainland... Take the time to explore, have a look around. Take your time finding and picking a guild, learn about the factions before you choose one...
And most of all, don't be afraid to talk to the other homins you meet. Most are very friendly, and only too willing to give what help they can, should you need it.

Re: Greetings.
i would recomend the lakes as a good starting city, it is a pain in the butt to get around with all the swiming but if you ever run into trouble you can also just run into the water. also it propally one of the easiest places to go explore imho.
*EDIT* i wouldnt recomend staying on Silan for to long, if you enjoy finding challanges, i stayed on there till about 41 in offencive magic and 32 fight. then when i got to the mainland and experince all it had to offer i felt like i spent to much time on Silan.

Re: Greetings.
If your doing crafting I'd go with your home races city because the other races can't teach you Zorai crafting and you'd have to start learning their craft skills (for example fyros armor crafting 1, matis armor crafting 1, etc).trevdk wrote:Where would be a good place to start?? Its a bit confussing when trying to read about it on the other forums. (maybe i should state that my char is Zorai)
From my experiances running through the starting areas;
Matis have the most agro in their starting area through the amount of gingos, although they are the most popular race so should get the most amount of player races through their area.
Tryker starting area just annoys me, too much swiming and you can't get out of the water here the bank is too step. On the plus side if that doesn't bother you is that the amount of water means if your in trouble in a fight you can run to it for safety making it one of the safest areas and also Trykers are mid popularity as a race choice.
Fyros is the area I have the most experiance with, more dangerious then the tryker area because if you get jumped by one of the gingos that is around that you can't beat in a fight your hoping to make it to a guard to help you. There is alot less agro to watch out for then in the matis area though. Fyros are the other mid popularity race.
Zorai have a very safe area, I've run around there alot and only around twice gotten agro from a predator. They are the least choosen race though so less players around compared to the other starting areas.
But as kedino said there are lots of players that will help you to travel from one city to another to get the teleport pacts so its not a huge decission to worry over.
Re: Greetings.
Thanks for all the good replies.
Crafting isnt really my thing tbh. I really enjoy the magic and fighting aspect, so I'll probably try and find an area that can honour these specified requirements......and a guild of course

Re: Greetings.
I'd highly reccomend ALL new players start in their home race capital, unless they have a specific reason to go elsewhere. Like coming to the mainland with a group of friends who are mixed civ. (Which was the main concern when the devs implemented the choice of picking your destination on the mainland)
I'd *really* hate to start seeing rumors of one land being better than another being spread around and all the refugees starting to go there. The lands are different, but all equally suited for your training. (Except, as noted, if you're going to do ANY craft at all you should be in your home region)

Oh I'm glad I peeked into this thread. I think I've finally chosen Matis as my race, and since I already know I will be Kami I wanted to start in Zora or Pyr, (but more Zora ^^) but I also do want to craft so I guess Yrkanis it is for now.

Start in Zoraï
This new ‘choose where you start thing’ is so not a good idea. What will happen is that the Silan community will sooner or later decide that one area is better than the others and all will start going there o_o cue horrible depopulation of certain zones thus fulfilling the ‘one area is better’ statement.
The reason for doing it is that apparently people couldn’t bear to be separated from friends they had met on Silan and would rather quit the game than a) spend an hour or 2 travelling to other lands or, heaven forbid, b) make new friends after leaving Silan.
*makes crazy gestures in the general direction of said players and GF*
also something that is worth noting; some of the stanza's are unavailable to train - for harvesting read a lot. The higher level you get the more of a problem this will be, so any potential digger should look very carefully at what skills they havent been able to learn and save the SP needed..
Staying to lv50 because you think you need the levels is crazy talk. remember that the starter zones on the mainland are designed for lv 1-50 players, anyone can come over without getting a single level on Silan and have no problems

Re: Greetings.
For faction fame it doesn't matter much where you start. You have to do missions to raise it high enough to join the faction you want and there isn't a huge hurry to do it so you'll have the time to get a trek to other areas. Anyway there is a kami that gives missions just a short walk north of Yrkanis although be carefull with that one some of the missions have negative fame with the local tribes.hazira wrote:Oh I'm glad I peeked into this thread. or friends that they knew from before and started the game with them and for a totaly new player their first trek is unlikely to be as simple as traveling for and hour or two. I know that doesn't make you any happier about it but stillrushin wrote:The reason for doing it is that apparently people couldn’t bear to be separated from friends they had met on Silan and would rather quit the game than a) spend an hour or 2 travelling to other lands or, heaven forbid, b) make new friends after leaving Silan.

hehe yes, an hour or 2 on a trek, a week or 2 solo
i know its easy for me to say, as my newbie shyness is very much gone but if ppl ask on the forum, or ingame they will soon find themselves with a group of friendly homins taking them to be reunited with their friends -)
