Notes from a trek

Post by odofitzg »

Gentle homins all, pray heed what I say, for I praise homins of Atys:

I am a poor Matis, not more than a week from leaving the Ranger's camp for Yrkanis, yet there was Senator Dios, not more than a meter from me! I bowed and backed away, certain that none would care to pay attention to me.

Imagine my surprise when many of the homins around her called out, "Anyone who would join us in our journey to Fairhaven, let them be known."

When I objected that I might have little to offer such a powerful company, I was told, "Well, you are alive are you not? Join us and see Atys." "I hurried down to the Karavan Altar and purchased a pact which would allow me to return home, packed a bag of useful things and trotted back to the gates. There three most excellent homins, Silensia, Rios and Seh..., my mind has lost the rest of the name. These three took me as part of their group.

Then we were off, marching down the road. Soon we were out of the small area that I have explored around Yrkanis and the beasts on every side grew larger and fiercer. Still the gathered party joked and laughed, though all kept a wary eye out.

It was only when we approached the edges of Heretic's Hovel that it became obvious that this was not to be as easy as I had been told. Senator Dios' guide became afflicted and could continue no longer. Those who stepped forward promised that they would do their best, but that they were not as knowledgable as the guide had been.

Still Senator Dios had a mission, and we all of us pressed forward. I stayed close to Silensia, and since I was aware that I could not deal much in the way of damage, prepared my amps and reviewed my healing spells. I was just in time, for we soon encountered hordes of beasts that I had never seen before and the whole party was soon engulfed in combat. Whenever I had a chance, I cast my poor spell on Silensia when his life force became low. A little healing, my mother told me, is better than none at all.

It seemed like hours that we wandered, taking paths that seemed good, then ended with the party surrounded by creatures of might. Still, while the creatures were mighty, the party was even moreso, and it was not we who died, but they. Finally we came to yet another thing that I had never seen before, a great swirling vortex of force against the wall of a canyon. The group dashed through it, and I followed.

And there I was, on the sandy beaches of Aeden Aqueous, instead of the louring skies of Heretic's Hovel, the day was bright and warm. There were still monsters between us and Fairhaven, but they were visible and the path was clear. It was only a few more hours and we were there.

Senator Dios thanked all of us who had assisted her on her journey, and her rear-guard leader even gave me a gift! My companions and I took our leave of each other and went our ways.

It was a fine trip. Now I will harvest for a while in the lakelands before returning to the lands of my fathers.

Thank you for listening to my tale.

It was a pleasure to have you with us, Odo!

I'm still quite sorry I was unable to continue with the journey, but glad it was successful. Congratulations to all involved and look forward to working with you again soon.

The trek is an art form, to say the least!
I enjoyed my first one the other night, and while I had SO many difficulties, when I was done I felt like I accomplished something. Earlier tonight I finished the second half, and felt better.
Keep on trekkin'!!!
