Hi all

Post by nolie101 »

Hi all,

just wanted to write a few lines as a newcomer to both Atys and these forums. I've lately been browsing through various sites in pursuit of a MMO to really carry me with all the hopes and wishes I have for a MMO. For me, the most important thing, is that the player (and together the community) is whats the center of the game. The players should be able not only to change the world surrounding them but also leave a mark of their presence.
I've been attracted to EvE Online for it's openness and played it for several occasions but gotten alienated from it by the loneliness I felt that particular game world offered. All tough, no game have ever felt so right in perspective of what I was looking for; up until now.I did even play in the (open) beta of Ryzom a good while ago, but at that time other games took most of my time and I obviously didn't give the game enough time to get to know it.
When I now re-discover Atys with the free trial. I'm pretty much in love with the whole concept of the game and describe it as "eve in a fantasy setting" to my pals. I'm actually eager to get off the island and start playing and subscribing to it. But on the other hand I feel learning most of the basics on Silan is a good way of being prepared for the adventures on main land. If you want to contact me in game my character is named Uerian and is of the Mantis race.

A quick question though: I've read somewhere that the Mantis is the least popular race and therefore their lands on ML is sparsely populated. Is this a fact or something more subject to personal opinion?

Thanks and I hope to have a wonderful time with you all soon.

Matis are actually the most populous race. However, on the mainland population disperses quite evenly to all over the world. Some places see more action than others, but it's usually related to whats in the zone more than population of any particular race.

Anyway, Welcome to Ryzom! Great to hear you're enjoying as much as the rest of us ;)
Feel free to send me a /tell anytime in game to chat or with questions.

Look forward to seeing you soon. :)

Hi nolie, welcome to Ryzom! Definitly do the four skill lines trainers missions on the island (as long as your intrested in all four) as they work really well as a tutorial for the basics of each. The final line of missions from Chiang can be nice for some equipment to use while getting your feet on the ground on the mainland but there are lots of helpfull crafters on both Aripostle and Cho who would be happy to make yo some stuff for starting off so if you don't want to do the missions don't worry about it.

The general view is that Matis are the most popular race choice in game as they could kinda be stretched to looking like elves or the most like humans, followed by the Tryker and Fyros being around the same level and the Zorai the least.

Don't worry about it though if you really want to be one race over the other, someone will be happy to help you 'trek' (travel) to another races starting city. Look out for Beefy if your on cho as he loves doing them. I'm not sure who to ask on Aripostle but bound to be someone if you keep a look out :)

Something I wonder about is the fact that I don't seem to be able to write under General section, at all. Are only paying subscribers allowed to post threads/replies in the general forums?

*edit* Forgot to thank you guys for your info on Matis. Thanks :)

Thanks neuze. Wow, so Zorai is actually the least popular? I thought people liked them best just because of their unique looks; I guess I was mistaken then :]

There should be nothing stopping Free Trial subscribers posting in the General forum - pop into klients or send soulsnatcher a forum PM to find out whats up.
