My Universe chat says "Welcome to Ryzom", nothing else.
That's it... that's all it says.
If I click the Help button, and then Help again... chat area.... there is nothing about the /universe channel in there... or anywhere else in the help system.
It always starts with a question or answer, then a comment is made, then another... how can I have a conversation with the 3 people that commented on the question or answer? Break my team, start a new team... send tells to the three people who commented asking them to break their teams, and join my team, so that I can say "hehe funny", in response to their question.
I've thought about this ... If this game was intended to be one of those 'quiet' mmorg games... ok!, then come out and say it. Come right on out and say... 'Most of us really don't like people talking in the universe channel.', or 'Talking in the universe channel is prohibited.'
And that was what I was asking in my post... last paragraph... come and state the rules, cuz I don't see any, and they seem to be changing over time.
I don't think a lot of people will understand a quiet mmorg, but that's nothing to me... if it is, then it is. But from what I've been told, CSR's do not work for the company who owns this game... they are volunteers, and a volunteer with a personal beef could be considered something else. Who is making the rules?
I haven't mentioned any names, I haven't called anyone names, I've never cussed in /universe or anything like that... I have messed around a bit... 10%... it happens when people are asking questions or providing answers. I do consider myself helpful, especially to noobs, I answer more questions than anyone when I'm online.
I understand if you want tight control over the game, it's just that I haven't seen any rules that state what is or isn't allowed in /universe... only a particular CSR stating what he/she would like to see. This CSR has stated in /universe "I like it nice and quiet.". Maybe people saw it...
Earlier today, I asked how I can do /me does a pee circle around timerous capryni. Someone answered, I said 'ok ty'. Couple comments were made, then I asked if a scampering yubo scampers, what does a timerous capryni do? I did not know about the /EM command.... it was a valid question.
The /universe channel was locked at this point. Perhaps we should further define what are valid questions and answers... I admit I was messing around a bit, but I seriously wanted to know what timerous means.

Re: Universe Channel - Cho
Do this one simple thing:
Start a new alt. Don't even bother with customizing it. Create and load into the world. Then, once you've loaded in. Click on the Universe chat tab. Read the first Warning window that immediately pops up.
Once you've done that. Come back and tell us again your thoughts.

Are you telling me that when I first created my character, almost 2 weeks ago... there was a message telling me what the /universe channel is for, and that I should have noticed that message and remembered it, and that is the rule?
There are a lot of things to look at when somebody creates a new character... like the world, the buttons, the HUD, the people walking around... purple tens, a big guy with a cool looking axe, they sky, the ground...
You can't be serious ... ??
Yes I have an alt... and no, I didnt' see the message... I've never seen it.
I'll take your word for it though, but the CSRs need to stop ***** about people asking questions or answering them in the /universe channel. Because as you have stated, that is the rule... and I'm going to start taking screenshots now. And if you continue to bother me, I'm going to report you for harrasment. The next time you lock the /universe channel because I asked a question, I'm going to report yor for harrasment. And I'm going to submit a screenshot.
Re: Universe Channel - Cho
Dude look at my screenshot, u even had to put a little V in the box to get the message gone everytime u use Universe........ stop playing the i know it better then u all role please, it is not making u look good.
eidt: On another note, stop using that language man, that also dont make u look good.

Ok, listen dude. When you make your character, it tells you. When you enter the channel, hit /u <enter key>, it tells you. It will keep telling you each day you sign in until you click DO NOT REMIND ME. Do not blame the CSRs for things you chose not to remember.

Re: Universe Channel - Cho
While we have no issue whatsoever with taking up requests for extra chat channels with the developers the rules for existing chat channels will stand and be observed. We want to avoid a situation where someone can decide which rules do or don't apply to them. As for universe beung used as a help channel.... well I don't see how a discussion on a "pee circle dance" was either helpful to players or a good demonstration of how a moderator free chat channel would be used constructively. I would say that this kind of talk not being wanted in a channel seen all over the game isn't a case of over enforcement of a common rule, more an indication of why that rule is in place.

Re: Universe Channel - Cho
Let me start by saying that I think that a universe (for free chat) and a Help channel would be best (yes Souls I WILL submit a ticket tonight).
Now to my two pence on this touchy subject...
The other night on Arispotle's universe channel, someone asked a question (honestly can't even remember what it was - vaguely think it wasn't completely gameplay related - was too annoyed by what followed). I responded and then exchanged a couple of jokey lines related to that. We then got another player saying the usual "wrong channel" rubbish.
What annoyed me most was this other player isn't a CSR and it's none of their business. I take exception to people like that, I shouldn't but I do. They rank alongside the people who post "wrong forum" comments as well.
Quit being such forum/channel elitists and get a life. Play the game and leave the channel/forum policing to the people who's job it is. People like you put the rest of us off responding to requests for help in universe. We're just trying to have some fun and maybe help others into the bargain. We don't need people like you giving us grief for TWO lines of banter (10 yes, 2 no) after answering a question.

Re: Universe Channel - Cho
When reading the thread, I can't help but thinking that we tend to be a little nitpicking over a simple issue:
I think everyone involved, players and CSRs have a pretty good idea of the intended purpose of the channel. It is indeed possible to forget / miss the initial, hard-coded warning, and apparently this is what happened to the OP. There are minor improvements to be made: the title could be chosen more appropriately (e.g. "Help Q&A" instead of "Universe"), and A short, one-liner message could be added reminding of its use (as the "Welcome to Ryzom" or MOTD lines in sys-info"). That siad, I personally haven't seen a strict, overdimensioned/overkill reaction to someone not using it for that purpose, specially not to newcomers. Yet, it is hard to believe that after some regular use of it, its intended purpose it is not clear, unless you have been so extremely unlucky that the day you log, you miss the warning and the CSRs unleash their wrath upon thee with extreme prejudice.
Several things pop again and again regarding Uni channel: a) CSRs tend to overreact -as some posts seems to state- b) a non-CSR player should not police the channel c) Other channels with the same scope as channel are needed.
For a), I admit I have not seen it. I have seen a *cough* from a CSR which personally makes me smile. Quite the opposite tho, during all the time that it has been active, we have been given some slack. CSRs do know that we tend to abuse its initial purpose (greetings, minor jokes) we are social beings anyway and as such, they have not acted as policy/access control bots, but merely and politely state it when it is required.
I tend to think that, as long as questions and answers are answered, minor chit-chatting can be allowed, and this is what I witnessed. Yet it is up to players to self-moderate. one line, two lines? who cares... it seems pretty evident to me. Should a non-CSR player police the channel? no, in theory, it is up to the CSRs *a their sole discretion*... but if CSRs are busy, why can't a player politely remember another player of its intended use? again, the tone and apply some common-sense. A kind reminder after some prudential wait is welcome (we should not need to be reminded the obvious: after 10 lines of a dark Wiziskistan dialect from a new player, a polite reminder, yes. An overreacted finger-pointing "Achtung!" to a new player asking for a rez 3 seconds after, no.
Finally, some players have stated (including myself) that a more generic universe-wide channel for purposes other that strict Q&A, help and related seems a desirable feature. It has been ticketed, acknowledged, and it is still to be seen whether it will be implemented or not. It raises a few issues, ranging from the clear possibility of abusing it (spamming) to more subtle ones such as whether it would be interesting to refine channels to accomodate common uses (Trade WTB WTS channels, LFT/LFG channels etc.). The point here is that the request has been sent and a gazilion tickets have been submitted for that. Until them, it seems to me appropriate to stick to what we have now. One may agree or not agree with this (I personally tend to think that as long as it can be disabled, there is little reason to oppose it, at least from a player perspective).
In summary, I think the universe channel is fine as is. As a public channel, it needs to be policed and, as long as its intended purpose is clear it is up to us to do some self-moderation and stick to that. Things like "I said hello and the GM banned me" or "You are spamming more than I spam when you tell me not to spam, so stop the spam"...etc..pweeze. Come on

Hold on, I challenge your claims and your percentages.
I am a Known Offender for spamming Uchat on Cho, mia culpa, but I watch to see what the Kami Tolerance is at the times I do it and avoid legitimate reprimand by staying within those limits. I say legitimate because the absolute last thing I want to see in the *only* channel available for server-wide communication is a bunch of inane single theme jokes (CN jokes are SO 2004, it's plain embarrassing) and random dude trashtalk. And it is exactly the latter which was the first time I saw you visited with player reprimand, and yeah, that included mine. "u make me laff u noob" does not constitute an answered question. If I never hear the immature spasms (heh heh, he said spasms) of red/flag blue/flag trashtalk again it will be too soon, if that is your offering I for one will pass.
What I saw of you in uchat last night did not look like helpful question answering, it looked like a spoiled brat telling a CSR to go play Morrowind (newsflash, a lot of folks would have suggested Oblivion as being more current) because they couldn't say what they wanted when they wanted.
And I have never, *ever* seen anyone fussed at for asking or answering game related questions. That is what uchat is for.
