Hi everyone, my name is James and I just started playing Ryzom.
I have been looking at this game on and off since it was first announced, but due to an addiction with the World of Warcraft (is that a swear word here?) I never got around to giving this game the time it deserved.
Basically I have started a new charactor in the Ruins of Silan called Marakai and I am currently trying to get my Magic skill up to 20 (I assume this is the cap for the trial version?). I was wondering if training up my magic skill will stop me training up my fight, foraging or craft skill as I would like to use all of these (hopefully up to 20) before I decide if I am going to get a full account.
At the moment, I am enjoying being a magic user but I always like to craft in a MMORPG and I want to try out the crafting/foraging system before I start paying.
Next, I was wondering where the game was going. Though I am yet to explore the Ring, I wanted to know if future expansions are planned. I read an old article about how at one point, another world was planned which you could transfer your charactor to and from and I was wondering if this was still on the cards.
I am aware of Nevrax going into recievership and I know that the game has been brought, but I'm not able to get my hands on any info about the future of the game and I was wondering if this was because no-one knows, or nothing is happening...
Anyway, I am enjoying the game and I think it has some really good features (spell editing is genious!) and I hope to become a full player and member of the community in the near future.
Thanks for reading this and answering my questions.

Welcome James
What goals GameForge for Ryzom has, will show during the next weeks/months I think.
No you are totally free, in your choice what to do. You can maximize all available skills.jghbray wrote: Basically I have started a new charactor in the Ruins of Silan called Marakai and I am currently trying to get my Magic skill up to 20 (I assume this is the cap for the trial version?). Try them out. Foraging and Crafting are full skills, comparable to the Fight and Magic trees.jghbray wrote: At the moment, I am enjoying being a magic user but I always like to craft in a MMORPG and I want to try out the crafting/foraging system before I start paying.

Hi James, welcome to Ryzom!jghbray wrote:Hi everyone, my name is James and I just started playing Ryzom.
It might be to some people (never can tell!) but mostly it's only long conversations about other games (doesn't matter which) over universe or region that tend to annoy some people.jghbray wrote:I have been looking at this game on and off since it was first announced, but due to an addiction with the World of Warcraft (is that a swear word here?) The trial limits your skills to a max of 25.jghbray wrote:Basically I have started a new charactor in the Ruins of Silan called Marakai and I am currently trying to get my Magic skill up to 20 (I assume this is the cap for the trial version?). Nope, how good you are at one skill doesn't limit how good you can become at any others. If you had the time and dedication you could max out every skill line in the game.jghbray wrote:I was wondering if training up my magic skill will stop me training up my fight, foraging or craft skill as I would like to use all of these (hopefully up to 20) before I decide if I am going to get a full account
Ryzoms crafting/foraging system is really nice. A great amount of depth. For example if we both used the same receipe to make a sword the materials we use in the receipe will change the stats of the sword alot.jghbray wrote:At the moment, I am enjoying being a magic user but I always like to craft in a MMORPG and I want to try out the crafting/foraging system before I start paying.
Foraging on the starting island frustrated me alot. It got more enjoyible for me when I was able to add biger radius, range and number of nodes to my searching for materials.
Gameforge took over Nevrex recently and they are still getting their feet in under the table so no announcements of future plans yet. The way they took over Nevrex means the staff were all taken on as well so they still have the devs with experiance working on Ryzom working on the game which should help them alot.jghbray wrote: Next, I was wondering where the game was going. The skill editing is brillent. Being able to modify your basic nuke so it costs less energy but takes a long time to cast for your pull and then having a point blank nuke that has no range but casts as fast as possible makes a big differance lets you get alot of variation out of the one spell and makes a big differance to hunting ... for me at leastjghbray wrote:Anyway, I am enjoying the game and I think it has some really good features (spell editing is genious!) and I hope to become a full player and member of the community in the near future.
Re: Another new player with a few questions...
Thanks for the answers guys, how come my account seems to list 11/20 on my skill level for magic? I assumes the 20 was the top I could get on the trial...?
Re: Another new player with a few questions...
That's when the skill line breaks into more skill lines. For example in magic when you get to 21 it breaks down into offensive magic and defensive magic. Unfortunitly the site I know that lists all the skill lines is down but here is a list of how the fight skills break as they progress.jghbray wrote:Thanks for the answers guys, how come my account seems to list 11/20 on my skill level for magic? Re: Another new player with a few questions...
I dinged 20 in crafting on a trial account last night, it expanded to the 21 tree but I got the message that skills in the free trial were capped at 20 and that I'd need to subscribe to go further.
Re: Another new player with a few questions...
Ahh ok, my mistake on the 25. Sorry.
Re: Another new player with a few questions...
Ahh right, well thanks, my magic is almost there!
