Should Ryzom have combat pets?

Post by ark014 »

I would love to have the opportunity in Ryzom to tame and control Ryzom animals, and be able to use them to fight enemies, i.e. a "Beast Master" Ryzom skill.

A variety of animals to use as pack and/or ride animals would also be nice.

In SWG my favorite of all my 8 characters was Nanonik Kamen, a Master Pistoleer + Master Creature Handler. The destruction of the Creature Handler profession, and the loss of any meaningful role for crafters and other non-combat players, were the reasons I left SWG for good in Jan 2006 and joined "Saga of Ryzom".

Would other Ryzom players like to be able to have Kippies, Gingos, etc. as combat pets? To avoid having too many such "combat pets" perhaps some strict requirement (such as level 80 in one or more magic or combat skill) should be imposed before allowing a player to have a combat pet.

"Beast Master" could be added to the Ryzom skill trees and allow more and more "Beast Master" options as more "Beast Master" levels were obtained.

Thanks,
Amphiaraus

There are too many people who want kipees and such for mounts. The only remote possibility of that being feasible within the lore is if homins defeat and enslave kitins at some point in the distant future. ;)

I agree -- any creature that is part of the Kitin "army" should be excluded from being a "pet" of any sort.

Amphi, many of your points raised here in theses Threads can be answered by simply searching the forums, because they´ve been discussed at lenght a few times in the past. And were the start of many a heated debate allready. *sigh*

In my personal oppinion, a "tameing" skill should:
1. exclude all Kitin
2. work differently then in (enter Name of currently favorite last played Game)
3. Be not something to get Players to stage "pokemon" like fights : "My Varinx can beat your Ocyx anytime." *bleah*
4. would surely be a nice addition, but first "sleep" and "stun" should be overhauled, because what good are beaten up pets? *g*
5. could be nice, if these conditions were met :p

The idea I like, and have seen proposed before. Although, I do not see being able to tame aggro creatures like ocyx or gingos. In real life, one still cannot completely tame wild animals, such as the big cats (yes, i like animal planet). Taming the herbivores makes sense though. So, if one were to be able to tame the creatures in Ryzom, I would say that we should only be able to tame herbivores. Of course, I would love a dog like my RL one :)

I don't mind what game they got the idea from as long as they consider how well it would suit the atmosphere, lore and style of Ryzom and what impacts it might have to game balance and with that said I think some sort of animal taming and pets could work in ryzom and add something fun to the game alot of people might enjoy.... if done right :)

i said i like the idea and im sure im not the only one. Only thing i ment was that people shouldnt try to make ryzom in a sort of copy swg game b4 SOE took it over ;) Because with much thing proposed there is almost always a line of: In SWG we had..... *fill in the dots* Both games seem to different to me even if they have some crossing lines.

I understand what you mean and agree. Just because another similer style of game had something doesn't mean it would be at all good for Ryzom. Like I love player created cities but I don't think it would work well in Ryzom but I just felt it needed to be said not all sujestions are bad because of the source of the idea :)
