A month? Get real, Gameforge have had legal control of the game for a grand total of 2 weeks (see here). Given that this is the Christmas/New Year period, plus some people have been doing their utmost to cause trouble (possibly including ex devs) I really dont think that some downtime is something they should be ***** at over. They just got hold of a system they never saw before that in all fairness probably wasn't in the best state anyway (and I don't think its too big a stretch of the imagination to think that their people have had some holiday time as well) so I don't think they deserve this kind of crap from you. Some games go down like this often, and some I could mention have to go down every day to stop unexpected downtimes.
For freak's sake, this is the only time I can remember that the game has unexpectedly gone down for this amount of time EVER since retail. I may be wrong, but its safe to say there won't be more occurences than you could count on one hand without resorting to the use of your thumb.
Be thankful that the game is still here at all for you to complain about, and thank the CSR staff who have put up with you all day, and the techs who were working on it all day, plus Souls getting a call at 6am on New Years Day and nothing even being close to working until midnight!
Some people ... +1 to Tyi's flame.

Re: Offerings
Stop ranting about GameForge gezzz. Ok when you're owner of a enormise game company that just took over two weeks ago, then you will have room to talk.
I took webpage design in school and if you thinking running and maintaining a web page of this size is easy you should be smacked. This website is master piece of coding that I applaud. If you don't know how to make a webpage I'll tell you maintaining it is a very stressful.
Next if you don't like how GameForge does things then DON'T PLAY!!! God you act like making a new item is just like a wave of a wand...WRONG!!! The image has to be made, then code has to be written, then the scales must be made it goes on and on.
Thanks for letting me rant, I feel so much better. If you found it offensive...I don't care, because I have held this rant back long enough. Think before you type people.

Re: Offerings
I think Ryzom has spoiled some of you and you need to calm down and be realistic. The fact that there are people in Klients even there to tell you that they don't know is more than most games will give you.
Most games will give me a webpage that's up, and a message telling me that there is some unanticipated down time due to a problem with the server, without me having to log into a special chat to talk with support staff who don't know anything more than I do. Realistic? I think its realistic to ask for the main web page of a multinational corporation not to go down for multiple hours. As for being spoiled? By that logic SoE and Microsoft are spoiling us all! For shame, perhaps they should offer -less- service?
You're demanding things over a holiday period when most people aren't even working to begin with, at odd hours of the day when people are asleep, on vacation, or otherwise not attached to their computers via an umbilical cord called a cable line.
You're absolutely right I am. I'm a customer paying for a service that not only isn't being rendered to me, but that hasn't even been discussed with me. If someone takes over a company that I'm paying money to for a service, I expect at least a hello and a "Sorry, we're working on it". Silence, as I said, is unacceptable. I don't think asking for a statement is being terribly demanding as a customer.
The CSR people are doing what they can, and I'm sure Jolt is doing what they can to get this all fixed and back on track. Most of them without sleep, on their holiday. I'm sure you'd love it if your workplace called up and said "Yeah, I know it's Christmas (or New Years, or whatever), but you need to come in, NOW."
Guess what. It happens.
Stop demonizing the "corporate entity". It's ridiculous. Just because a company makes money, and doesn't post an FYI doesn't mean it has an anal-cranial inversion. In fact, the corporate aspect of GameForge has little to nothing to do with the hardware/softward crashes, etc. The people who do have been working their butts off to fix things, and most of them are not in open communication with one another. ... Also, GameForge did participate in an interview as I understand it.
The corporate entity is responsible for -opening- that line of communication, for speaking with the player base, for creating a venue through which support staff can announce system problems. Logging onto Klients and having them shrug their shoulders and go "Umm... I don't know what's wrong" isn't an answer. Klients would be a wonderful venue if it was -always- up (Klients went down during this mess), and if it was -well- informed about what's happening and available to give an ETA. As for the main site failing?
No, I'm not happy about this either, but I'm not going to spew vitrol at anyone about it. Doesn't help in the long run and only encourages others to get worked up.
I disagree entirely. Corporations need feedback, and if customer impression of a problem is very negative, then they -need- that negative feedback to improve. Am I going to go firebomb a car or cancel my subscription or run screaming into the night... No. But I am going to growl and prod at the server every couple hours and be quite displeased that there isn't even a current system for informing me 'accurately' about the situation (I say accurately, because Klients, though helpful, isn't well informed despite caring, and caring only gets you so far.)

o.o ... you peeps who are on GFs case so hard... need to take a step back... They have JUST gained control... of a MMO... I am sure thats not something you can just grab and run with when you've never had one before...
I am tired of these types of things being said about gameforge, when they havn't even had time to get settled in...(wow, that almost made me sound like a fan of gameforge... a company I honestly don't know much about)...
Get a dose of reality people... No company can take over a large task they have never done before and run it perfectly...instantly... give them a little %$#$% time... I mean damn...

Re: Offerings
Downtime is sometimes unavoidable...
... but I don't understand why the game servers, the web site, AND the Klients server are at the same location. I couldn't get into ANY of them for hours. It would seem obvious that the support sites should be in a different colo.
Perhaps this arose because of financial constraints, and hopefully will get better in time.

Re: Offerings
What people seem to fail entirely to grasp is that GameForge isn't a tiny little company that's just trying to get its feet under it. I can accept that GF is the personal Jesus of a fraction of the Ryzom community for effectively saving the game from the trash can, but honestly, their very first step towards taking up the torch should be communication, especially in times of severe server problems.
And that communication isn't there. Not just 'lacking' or 'secretive' but entirely absent. Does that not worry -anyone- else? Does that not frustrate -anyone- else?
People seriously need to get off their blood "Its New Years" trip.
Guess what, people -do- work on new-years.
We're not dealing with three or four guys who are nursing a hangover at their kitchen table, we're dealing with a company, with a marketting division, a customer relations division, a support division.
People are also either forgetting my original post, or are too dumb to read it . I 'did' say a full half of this thread was a personal venting of frustrations.

Nice, people don't agree with you so they either don't understand or are dumb ..... this thread is going to go nicely from here I think.kirzen wrote:People are also either forgetting my original post, or are too dumb to read it .

Ok so Kirzen. What would have YOU done. lets pretend you are the guy incharge of GF(france) you've ha a nice holiday and out of no where you get a phone from one of your employees.
"Sir, Sir."
"Yes what is it" <-- thats you btw
"It appears as if there has been a major fire in one of the Data rooms for ryzom"
"Omgosh, is anyone hurt" <-- you
"We're not sure yet but we know that all of the servers, the site and Klients has gone down"
"Sir?? Sir are you here?"
"Yes im here, i was just thinking" <-- you
"ok Sir, what would you liek us to do?"
So. you have no site, no game and no Klients. What would you do?
Please enlighten me as to how the hell you would have done a better job?
Oh and please. do NOT imply that GF is my personal "saviour" (or Jesus as u said but trying to be a bit more PC) i was actually in favour of Ryzom.org

Re: Offerings
gameforge won their bid for ryzom just before Christmas, do you honestly think that in the 5 working days following the courts decision they have taken over anything?
let me enlighten you - of course they haven't!! They have left everything as was in the hands of Jolt and will probably be sitting down seriously with all parties concerned in January to access and understand the company and IP they have purchased.
and no i'm not a gameforge fanboi (please see rather cynical earlier posts )
