That's because the question in this poll here is not about who is against the idea, but about who doesn't think it's the BEST option. That does not necessarily mean that those 105 are against it. I hope you can understand that you should actually understand the answers of the poll to get a representative result, this poll won't give any.

Sure, this also goes to everyone else, but you seem to be the most persistent, and the most affected -- in more ways than one.

I try to be nice, and usually, I am. I also try to be helpful, and that is why I am addressing this to you. If you have such a bad problem with Ummax, and vice versa, there is a simple solution for someone with maturity. Stop feeding the fire. Sure, you don't get the last words, but you also don't give you foe the satisfaction of winning. Obviously Ummax is not going to let down on his own, so it falls on your shoulders.

I'm not telling you to not share your views, but please, change how you do it. I like you, I appreciate your work for our community in the past and present, but my respect about you (and a few others) have severely diminished.

Still, I shouldn't have assumed the worst players representative of the whole. My apologies for that, maybe in future more mature and intelligent people will be the first to respond.

Me and DT are opposite ends of the spectrum of players in Ryzom and while he can be a bit (a lot) of a head-end about alot of things in and surrounding the game we agree that ryzom.org is bad news and an unrealistic approach to continuing.

The "you"s far away the second paragraph are generic, not specifically to you, as far I didn't know if you come by that way or not. Even that makes me funny; in places like slashdot I'm used to assume that the real meaning of troll is "someone that don't think the same that me". They used it for all, even when someone kindly disagrees with them.

I see why you've thinked bad about that post. In the other side, I can see why DT answer you like that, and try to understand:

I found Ryzom through a BBC article on Ryzom.org, went to Ryzom.org, watched a video and read the site,

I may be the only one....but does anyone else NOT get the ryzom.org video, or what point it was trying to convey? Yea, pretty video, pretty music, but it seemed more like a commercial for Ryzom than Ryzom.org to me.

The video was either videos made from the current ingame engine, or taken from old demo movies released by nevrax, once again, not ryzom.org. There are no models of WIP type things to show any sort of proficiency in 3D for making new content in the future on ryzom.orgs part, or any thing else else that has to do with much of anything other than flashing a few questions accross the screen every once in a while. I'm not tryin to knock it, i promise you i'm not, but i do know what works in commercials, and part of that is conveying a message, and i just dont get it.

I could take video of WoW, splice together a pretty kick ass video, and throw some driving video behind it, but how does that mean that i could do or make the same quality graphics/programming/content/ect... that Blizzard has (ok..maybe BAD example...but..), see my point?

I look at it this way....look at ryzom.org as if they're interviewing for a job opening. If your going to apply for a job, you show examples of your work, as well of past work experience, and what your plans are when you get the job. What you most certainly DON'T do (or shouldn't) is show up to the interview with someone elses work, and claim it as your own. I'm not saying thats what was done in this case, but it could very well be confusing to those that don't play Ryzom to know that the work pictured has nothing to do with Ryzom.org or the quality of work to expect from them.

Please dont look at this as an attack on the Ryzom.org folk, its just obsrevations of your presentation thus far, and if the video is an indication of what to expect, then i would expect to see better. I want to see something from you guys, impress me. Show me exactly what it is you do and what you are capable of.

If you guys have artists...show me, i'd love to see their skill level, as well as their vision for RYzom. If you guys have programmers, show me that too. Please oh please oh PLEASE do not show me what another company other than YOU can do though, because if thats the case, there are other candidates "interviewing" as well that most likely can, and this most certainly is not the kind of job you apply for with no work experience.

The video was up about 2-3 days after Ryzom.org started, as far as i remember. I think it serves the purpose of showing people who don't know Ryzom, but are interested in Ryzom.org, a bit sbout what the game is like.
I guess it serves this purpose quite well. The whole project was asssembled under immende pressure of time, and having a honed presentation ready of an idea thats constantly still growing, and maybe changing, is a bit much to ask..

As far as the video, well, i beg to differ, but i already posted on the topic of quality on that, so it'd be redundant to repeat the same things. To my eyes it looked like a "student project", they were (as you admitted yourself) selling ryzom, not themselves. I would hope to expect more from them is all if they ever plan on demanding a monthly fee for their services.

As far as doing great with not much time to prepare? Well, i'm sorry but when it comes time to ask people to give them their monthy fees if ryzom.org does actually win the bid, the answer "well, we didnt have enough time to implement x,y,z..ect ect ect...SORRY!" isnt gonna cut it, at least not as far as myself, and most other consumers are concerned. This isnt the type of thing people are going to stick around for and pump their money into because they feel guilty or bad for the people working on it, they need to be able to make the customer rationalize spending their money on their services.

If Ryzom.org isnt ready to rock and roll quickly, pumping out some sort of product, or at the very least keeping the game in its present condition, then the current player base is gonna move on, simple as that. Is this a lot to ask of them? Absolutely not, consumers are finicky, and deservingly so as its their dime and time that any company that buys ryzom will inevitably be running on.

If they can't get a proposal ready in a few months, then what kind of wait time are we looking at if/when the handover takes place to see any sort of life signs out of them as an actual company? Staff just doesnt magically show up overnight, and certainly not for free. People arent going to wait around for 6 months to a year or more for this project to start acting like an actual production company, albeit a small one, they need to start acting like it now if they want to keep the current player base.

If you wanna see what a free open source free MMORPG looks like, go check out planeshift as its probably the closest example of what to expect from a company such as Ryzom.org if they do win the bid...

...Do these guys at planeshift do good with what they have? Certainly, but much like Ryzom.org inevitably will be , they have little to no money to pay for a fully functional staff and art department, and thus, it pretty much looks the same now as it will a year from now, and looks the same NOW as it did a year ago. They have very little resourses at their disposal, and this is a good example of the speed of which things get done when done for free.

I dont want ryzom to be "Planeshift part 2" that i have to pay $15 for. I want to see at least monthly updates on things, as well as fixes to many of the problems that the community has been begging for to be fixed for years. I want it to be as good, or even better than the product i'm already paying for currently, or nothing at all, and i'm not going to wait long for that to happen even if it doesnt fit into their schedule.

anyhow I have no idea who you are but when I hear that the people at ryzom.org are "Nicer" then the people here I kinda get confused since the game is here and they are not really a part of it. If you hate this community so much then your really gonna hate the game because the people on this board are the ingame community (unlike ryzom.org we dont have an alterior motive to post we play a game they are advertising well they are trying to advertise hehe) I would actually prefer if they didn't give this game "free advertising" its starting confuse people as it has you.

Also there are a few free accounts that have popped up which probably do correspond to people who are part of the free software community who are attempting to help ryzom.org who probably come to post here on occassion so if you got caught in the crossfire sorry.

And maybe "we" are not part of the community also ? What you don't seem to grab is that there are actual players supporting the project. You might like it or not, but these players are as entitled to give their opinion on these forums as you are.

I am playing this game since early 2005, with two accounts. Agreed, it's on the French-speaking server, I suppose that doesn't count as being "part of the community".
