Think of it like this, Karavan = Galactic Empire, Kami = Rebel Alliance, if you are not aquainted with SWG, then a simple Kara = Evil, Kami = Good.

As said by others... read up on the lore (and the timeline to date) and see what intrigues you and follow that. If you choose by popularity or someone elses suggestion you may not enjoy our gameplay as much. It's better to lose playing your game than win when your heart isn't in it.

also i would suguest if you plan on PvPing pick what type of a fight you want? if you go karavaner you will have the odds in your favor more then you would as a kami. but if you like to be a underdog and fight a force that is greater then you go kami.
