You can leave them in the stables or have them stand in a specific place or follow you. While moving, they will need to be fed, else they will eventually refuse to budge. If they are killed, then they will stay as a corpse for enough time for you to get your stuff out of them, but then you will HAVE to buy a fresh one. Because of this danger, Most people leave their packers in the stable to act as a "bank".

The cost of a packer ONLY affects its hit-points. All carry the same amount of goods.

A single homin can own a maximum of 3 packers and 1 mount.

You can only buy them once you've come over to the mainland. There's no vendor to buy one from on Silan. Once you have acquired one though, your packer's inventory will show as another tab on your inventory window (which you can right-click to put into a seperate window). In order to move stuff to/from your packer's inventory, you have to be within a certain distance from it. Don't know offhand exactly what the distance is, but it's fairly close. You can also move inventory to a packer in a stable without having to pull him out/put him back in. You can also sell items from a packer's inventory directly provided they are within range.

Basically, they're a mobile "bank", and a very valuable tool when you're out farming large quantities of mats.

Yes the presence of a stable with packers and a guy behind the counter on Silan is only there to entice you. Despite verbal abuse and threats of violence he will not sell anything.

To give you an idea, the cheap packer is 117k dappers. That's a feeble and slow packer best suited for leaving in the barn as a storage locker. As posted previously, you can view your packer inventory from anywhere but you have to go to the stable to move things to and from the packer.

One nice thing is, if you are crafting by your packer/stable, the crafting window lets you assign materials to the recipe slots as if your inventory and the packer inventory were one and the same, so you don't have to drag everything out.

If you are worried at all by the 117k dappers, by doing the quests on the starter island along with the initial quests from the Kami and Karavan representatives you can have up to 175k dappers or more easily. Just the Kami/Karavan quests on Silan give like 50k each or so if I recall.

You will *want* a packer ASAP unless you do not plan to ever harvest or craft.

Being as all new characters are stuck on Silan for the moment, you should all have time to raise plenty dappers, even if you just dump dropped mats onto the merchants.

Hint. You can have up to 128 items or stacks for sale to other players. Always be up against that limit. If someone buys it you get about double what the merchant would have given, if it expires in a couple days you get what you would have gotten so you are not out any profit by trying to sell it on. If you have better items and your 128 is full, you can pull down the cheap or low quality stuff and put the better stuff up. Don't use your 128 sales with 20 pairs of ql 10 pants if you have ql 20 to move.

The dappers will flow. I am told as time goes on with characters and guilds, you wind up with really more dappers than things to buy.
