Wrong iwo,

Official sources comes from newspaper who are legally responsible of spreading false rumors.. meaning Nevrax could sue them.. or the official buyers.. or even you in that regard.

Knowing the BBC made a news (source), Ryzom.org is as of today.. the only official buyer, until Nevrax disclose another name, or another company officially state their desire to buy the product. What you are telling me is no different than saying "The Co xxxx says yyyy, so yyyy is the only truth"! Well, there are countless of examples that refute such argumentation and I think you don't need example to understand what I mean.

Again: Ryzom.orrg is the ONLY official buyer known so far.. ie: Nevrax could sue them for doing so if they weren't official.

This statement has nothing to do with a possible mistrust toward Nevrax or a conspiracy theory (they lie to us, ect..).. it's a simple fact, the only thing we ALL KNOW FOR SURE, meaning 100%. When in the coming days, other buyers will be known, meaning their name, their plans, ect. then this statement would no longer be applicable.

Until then: you are in the facts, giving a definitive "no" to the only known Buyer: one that consists in a mix of Ryzom Developers, Nevrax former/actual employees and Ryzom players... But in the process, you're just giving a definitive "yes" to nothing more than this obscur statement: "several companies and/or individuals are actively engaged in negotiations to take over Ryzom." (source)

NB: did it occur to you that this project might also be included in the above description?

Again, incorrect. A company doesn't have to annouce they're buying another company prior to doing it. I really don't know where you're getting your information from, but it's wrong.

(A good example of this is CCP buying White Wolf. No one saw that coming til it happened)

And jsut because a story ran in the BBC news doesn't make it completely true or the only information. The BBC only knows what they were told. If the story is wrong and nevrax tells them, then like most news agencies, they'll print a retraction.

In essence, your assumtion: "the support they have is not the community support." is therefore wrong... you'd rather speak of " the part of the community you like"

You have the Free Soft Community support. I know a funny (and a little sad) anecdote: the notice of ryzom.org hass been posted in barrapunto.com two days ago (barrapunto.com is the spanish equivalent of slashdot.com). Well, I know some users of barrapunto.com in RL, and a pair of them has joined in ryzom.org, and make a contribution.

None of them knows ryzom, they'll not play and they don't care a damn about the project (And I have speak about the game long before), but they have join and done the pledge because they want to help a Free Soft project. I relly doubt that they will give the cash if the project goes on.

They aren't the community. You have drawn a lot of people who doen't know ryzom from slashdot and all the Free Soft world, but they aren't the Ryzom community. More of them don't care a damn of the game, and they'll only play if the game becomes free. That's not the ryzom community.

Here, in this forums, you have the ryzom community, the *real* Ryzom community, and you've seen the poll results. Ryzom.org is *not* the community, and is *not* an official source.

ROFL! Have you ever read some of the papers out there today? The newspapers are in NO WAY required to only spread 100% verified correct information. The only limitations on what they can say is what their readers will buy, and wether or not they get sued by the people they write about.
alphacen wrote:Ryzom.org is as of today.. the only official buyer, until Nevrax disclose another name, or another company officially state their desire to buy the product.
This line is not in the refered source. Stop making things up and then pretending the BBC said that!
alphacen wrote: Again: Ryzom.orrg is the ONLY official buyer known so far..
Wrong, even with your qualifier. We have only hearsay to say that Ryzom.org has made a bid. And yes, "known" is important, since what we dont _know_ can still exist...

We dont _know_ 100% for sure anything that hasnt been released by official sources. In this case those sources are Nevrax and the french legal authorities.

And all that is that "a number of individuals and groups" have displayed interest and are negotiating. Thats the long and the short of it. Everything else is just a sideshow.

OMG Elvis is still alive and there WERE weapons of mass destruction!!

Just because a newspaper/TV source says something is true, it doesnt mean it is, news spreads rumours because it sells news :P

FYI there was a post from Souls http://www.ryzom.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27499&page=4
which says Nevrax are looking into wether there is a cause to take action against ryzom.org - hardly the sign of a trustworthy company and until what they alledge is confirmed by nevrax I dont consider their information as reliable.

As for my question being misleading, its not, I want to know who thinks Ryzom.org is the best option for the game, and who doesnt. If you have another question to ask, I would suggest you make a poll for it. If you do not know wether it is the best option for ryzom, I would say that was covered by 'dont know, not enough info' which i deliberatly put in as most of the rumours flying round are unsubstantiated.
Basically for me, it boils down to do you want open source free ryzom and xaviers company or do you want a proper company to buy ryzom.

Another interesting thought is that considering all the money ryzom. org have are pledges, would this even be considered a concrete offer when the time comes? I dont know anything about French law, but it seems a doubtful kind of proposal to me.

And thankyou for that :) I voted because I think the poll was an interesting information source. Especially compared to ryzom.org's little poll (a majority of people on a webring agree with the aims of that webring? SHOCKING!)

Apologies for dragging your poll offtopic Seren ;)

Mmm... not sure to be honest. Pledges work for charities fairly well, so perhaps if they did win, they would have a set payment date, and if that wasnt met it would go to a buyout by the next highest bidder.

But frankly I think Ryzom's real assets are worth far more than Ryzom.org could raise, so any company with an interest in this kind of thing that doesnt already have its own comparable assets would be looking...

As a last resort it would be nice if all of it became GPL'd but I'd not play it.

For one, setting up a new company would end just like nevrax, through inexperience, logical choices that prove to be mistakes later on, pitfall and general bad luck.

I like a stable company, a nice and dedicated support staff and a running server to play on. If a established company takes over ryzom and the support staff and developers can be kept on that would be the best.

I think it is a very sweet gesture of xavier. He cares.

Firstly, there is nothing in the BBC article that says ryzom.org is the only possibility.

Secondly, I personally would honestly prefer Ryzom to be shutdown gracefully than pulled down by Xavier and his little plan.
