I give him an A for effort but don't think they have what it takes to pull this off.
I hope a company with some experience and funds takes over Ryzom.

I think his estimate of 10k euros, if no one else wants it, was at best naive. While I think he is trying to do good with this, ultimately I think if they do get the source code and art, I think it will fail miserably with in 6 months because there needs to be a legitmate buisiness behind a game like this and developers. And to add to this as Kostika said she trusts no one in the game to program for the game to include herself and I share this sentiment. (I.E) the differing views on PVP would be put to the test because the PVPers may want to impose more restrictions to force more pvp or just turn on everyones PVP tag. Then our beloved game would turn into nothing more than a gank fest, or it could go to the other extreme. To me letting the players have complete control over a game would make the game too volitile and unstable which would eventually make the game unplayable. This in my estimate is just inviting disaster :( I just hope and pray that what souls has said about our future looking very bright comes true, because I have made some really good friends in an out of my guild and love this game very much and would hate to see this community dissolve into the abys of other mmos.

Read the .org forums a bit.

Open Source is not total chaos or something, changes have to be accepted before they are added to the official source. There could be full pvp and no-pvp servers, and stuff like that.

Whatever Xaviers offer is, consider mine (his + $20) :P

What would happen to the community-raised money should another company win out the bid?
