Wow, didn't know that. Well if that is the case then and absolutely no money has exchanged hands, then this is really not gonna be taken seriously by anyone. Not trying to rail you guys or anything, im just tryin to be realistic.

It really is a decent write up and site and all, but nobody, and especially banks are going to take "internet pledges" serously in the slightest. This really doesnt have any weight behind it from how it sounds now, and in all honesty until there is some real proof of money to show, the bank/banks that now pretty much own nevrax won't even wipe their arses with this.

Once again, im not tryin to say what you guys are doing is bad, i seriously respect it and think that it would at the very least be a novel idea, but it is as stands serverely lacking and makes absolutely no sense at all in its present form.

Not really, i dont see it as having/not having anything to do with "opinions" or not, just saying what i feel has more to do with "reality" really. I really do think this is a pretty cool idea, but it wont be taken seriously by anyone that really has to do with anything about the decision IRL unless something changes.

I'm not tryin to decide anyones opinion. Don't misunderstand me, i think its a great thing for everyone to just say what an amazing idea this is, but i think its more helpful to think of ways to improve this than to just say how wonderful it is and then walk away from it.

The fact is that while i'm sure those running this campaign have nothing but good intentions, and that those pledging also do, things happen and people often have change of hearts or change their mind frequently.

An online pledge has no way of really enforcing recieving the money. WHile those that made the pledges im sure made them with good intentions, some with undoubtably change their minds about it and there is no good way to enforce this. This campaign may get 100% of their pledges, or they may get 10%, there is no way of knowing until money has actually changed hands is all im trying to say and any company involved in negotiations or decisionmaking in regards to Ryzom will undoubtably understand this and take it into consideration. Banks/buisiness' realize this and it won't be taken any more seriously than an online petition (which may have some effect on some things, but will matter not to a bank/court). All that matters to creditors is cash and assets in which to buy, not pledges.

Come on Kaet, the bias there is obviously swayed because the folks that would sign on there are already supporters. We are all different...

I myself would not sign onto a website that holds in it's hierarchy someone that had already taken a private user list and used it for their own means. Now everyone signed up to the website can be expected to have given their info away...

There are other flags for me as well... buying the .org domain for example... obviously an attempt to make money and/or possibly create a phishing opportunity. Some of these folks may be disgruntled employees, who knows why they may have been let go. It could have been cutbacks, it could have been something they were doing to possibly make them suspect. Like maybe instead of developing our game they were working on some of their own work for later possible release under ryzom.org.

I don't know a thing about any of this, I just know that a cynical person like myself sees nothing but suspicious activity that may actually have undermined or may be undermining things for what was once our "Saga".

I sure hope you all kept your info minimal when you signed onto that site, regardless of how good their intentions MAY be... who knows what could happen to all that info, we know there is already a history of using some of our personal info for their personal gain...

I'd honestly hate to see those with good intentions be taken advantage of...

Now seriously.. being a bit less cynical and a bit more positive (I hope you all have bit of sense of humor), don't satanize the whole community for what might have been done wrong by someone -not the community-, even none of us knowing what has precisely happened (although looks like everyone does except me.. hmm.. I admit I'm an uninformed guy). Just keep in mind you're hurting many many more persons involved when you say "don't trust them".

I have to agree to some extent with DoubleTap, when I got an email to my none public email which includes my username the alarm bell went off (yours would too if you work with any kind of security or privacy issues).
Did Nevrax "loose" the database? Sell it? Was the account system hacked? In anycase it shouldn't suddenly been used by a party to which I didn't give it to (and I didn't remember seeing anything about it in the EULA).
I doubt it was done for any mallicious reasons and I support the .org site. But it still feels wrong.

While I think that possibly Ryzom.org is a good initiative, leading by good people, or, at least, followed by good people, like you, but...

I'll never, ever, under any circunstance, being positive about privacy issues. It's curious, but the FS community (As you can see in slashdot) has, as a main concern, the privacy of the data. I'm reading here a lot of people speaking about Ryzom free, but I don't see noone being concerned with that account problem.

About the Ryzom.org people, the first thing I know (And a lot of people, I think) was the problem of the "suspicious" mail list. This is a very very bad presentaton card for any people concerned with privacy, I can assure you.

I think they make a big mistake sending those mails. They could have wait two or three days, finish the web, open it, and then, speak abut that in all the forums you want, including this. In that way I probably have become a suporter.

As they have done it, I'm with vguerin. All the project looks weird. I'm in free software projects, and the public image and legality it's a matter to care a lot, or all can be screwed.
