Moving problem (?)
Moving problem (?)
Hey guys, i have this problem... When I start playing, with any of my characters, after 10 secs or so, the keyboard stops working for the game... I try to move, open the configuration, etc, but no button works. The START button works just fine, so i can minimise the game and shut it down through Task Manager, and the keyboard works fine for everything else, but not for the game itself. Does anyone know what's the problem? Please, help, because i cant play the game at all this way.
Re: Moving problem (?)
I have a similar problem.
the startup seems to work fine until the ingame world appears, then i totally lose mouse and keyboard for the game. Chat and world is still running, I can watch people move around etc, just cant do anything.
The work around I have been using is having a blank notepad open, I Alt-Tab to that, wiggle the mouse around, then alt tab back to Ryzom. Sometimes that fixes it, sometimes it locks ryzom up completely. then I pretty much have to shut down Ryzom by task manager and restart.
Frustrating.
happens maybe just under 50% of logins

Re: Moving problem (?)
Ryzom is not an alt-tab friendly game, unless your playing in windowed mode you should avoid it.

Re: Moving problem (?)
Try launching the game in windowed mode and switch to 'hardware cursor' when you get into game.
That way you can switch between Ryzom and something else very easily.
There is also a Windows XP PowerToy called 'Advanced Alt-Tab' which is very handy in that it does a better job of switching between apps than the standard one.

Re: Moving problem (?)
I am also having this same exact problem case for case, and whenever i attempt to switch it to hardware curser the game freezes.... Is there anything else that can be done?
Re: Moving problem (?)
Run the game in windowed if you wish to do other things? As said, the game isn't overly friendly to frequent alt+tabing. Odd control bugs, I've had missing texture propblems pop up, intense graphical lag after an alt+tab etc. However, windowed mode works perfectly fine, with none of said bugs.

Re: Moving problem (?)
Actually, this happens for me in both windowed mode and normal mode

Re: Moving problem (?)
Remove, reboot and reinstall video drivers.
Never hurts and may help.
Could be cooling issues.
May be shared resources issues.
Could be software NIC getting waylaid due to CPU sucking up all the cycles when game gets going.
May need to forward/open/trigger the UDP ports.
Power supply may not be adequate when video card is ramped up during play.

Re: Moving problem (?)
For those of you still having this problem, ive found a work around that will allow you to still play, (though this however does not fix the problem itself, it'll allow you to still enjoy playing the game while finding a way to actually fix it)
Ive tried, using the latest drivers for all hardware, uninstalling and reinstalling them, different video card settings, different graphics settings for the game, never worked. My computers fairly new, lack of memory isnt the issue, atleast for my computer, regardless of how power hungry ryzom may be. As well as cooling and power supply shouldnt be issues as well, as of yet, i havent really figured out -what- exactly is causing this problem (the keyboard dieing, the mouse curser disappearing, in essence, dieing as well, regardless if your playing in windowed mode or full screen, as soon as you try and pan the camera using the right mouse button)
But here is the work around. And hope it works for others and not just myself.
Load Ryzom in windowed mode. This work around only seems to work for windowed Ryzom (mostly due to having to alt tab, and Ryzom in full screen mode doesnt like this at all). Now, logging in, and selecting your character, you dont do anything out of the ordinary, go ahead and do that. But... When Ryzom is starting to load all the game content (before you actually appear in the virtual world) Alt-Tab, open your internet browser, a chat window from an instant messenger, or pressing the windows key forcing the start-menu to pop up. Either works.
Now dont do anything, keep Ryzom in the background (BUT DONT MINIMIZE IT!) It should take a little bit longer to load than normally, since ryzom is in the background and not the primary program opened. Once the game finishes loading, you appear in Atys, but its all very choppy for the first few moments (give it about 15-30 seconds for most of the choppyness to go away) then comes the crucial part...
When it stops being so choppy, RIGHT CLICK (AND hold down)onto Ryzom's window, making you switch back to windowed Ryzom. Now as your holding down this right mouse button, move it around, making your characters camera view move around in the process. Do this for 2-3 seconds, then release. Sometimes it gets stuck in Free Look mode, so all you have to do is Left Click and your curser will appear, if it doesnt lock up on you like usual, Congratulations, it worked! If it still doesnt, then im terribly sorry :\
This solution may or may not work for everyone, but hey! its atleast worth the shot, Ryzom is definitely worth the trouble...
