Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

The players and type of game that SoE didn't want. We can hope from that previous disdane that they wouldn't be intrested in Ryzom. All we can do is wait, watch and hope for anyone except SoE.

Ashling! Hugs!

I agree that sony is the absolute LAST company that I'd want to take over Ryzom. I think its quite telling that SOE hasn't been mentioned at all in any official news, but there are many subscribers that are so burned by SOE they jump right to the point. If SOE is involved, BYE.

Hmmm, I have to say I don't know a lot about buisness or anything really, but it would seem to me that 'WE' and our hard earned dappers are the potential for this game to suceed or fail. If we want it to suceed then I think we should all get together, (here would be a good place) and make our voices heard. Perhaps we need a spokesperson who will take all our veiws to the people who will take over SoR and say exactly how we want this game to evolve. Of course eventually the new owners will want to make their mark and definately attempt to increase paying player numbers, but there are other games out there for people who want another type of experience, I think we ALL agree we want this one. We don't want it any less complex or (and this is the big one for me) any less community orientated. Maybe we could post some sort of questionaire so we can formulate all our views. There are some pretty articulate people who post here...one of us can lead the campaign and speak for us all! Join the Union of Atys Forever!

Nice thought but we don't all agree in any case, as evidenced by the couple of times there has been an exodus of players and the very different desires across the normal player divide.

There's a few points of commonality that I think we all want to preserve. The uniqueness of the skill system etc, but outside that, not so much.

You won;t need to worry about your voices not being heard - we've become pretty good at making sure devs know what is wanted and reactions to what is not :)

You can, but it involves working on all sides and taking all views into account.
The danger of creating a 'lobby' is that only one voice becomes ascendent or that the company listens to the lobbyists that only meet their existing preconceptions.

I would like to disagree...but.........
'Unique' and 'niche' are just that, the reality is we are the minority in the world of online gaming. Easy and Quick sells...games, food, credit cards...this is where the real money waits, servicing greedy and lazy. :(
Experience is essential.....Wisdom is priceless.

That's not completely accurate though Mugendo. While yes we are the minority the majority aren't that 'easy' to please. With the exception of WoW most MMOs of that type have to constantly keep adding quests to keep the players busy getting the new loot that made the old loot obsalete and there is always that threat of a similier game coming out and stealing away your customers. It will be intresting to see how the next set of those games coming out do. Releasing a game into such a crowded simlier feel field of games will lead to a lot more DDOs then WoWs.

A unique and niche game on the otherhand makes less imdiate return but because it is unique will have a more loyal playerbase that will stay with the game longer. You just have to look at the way EVEs playerbase just keeps going up and compare that to how the playerbase is useally going on a quest loot based MMO that has been around the same number of years.
