Game Freezes

I just bought a new processor (4600+ AMD Dual Core) and a new graphics card (Radeon X1950 Pro) and now i cannot play Ryzom anymore because every time i try to play it freezes. I get into the game, run around with my charc for about 1-2 mins and then it freezes my comp up and makes a wierd constant noise and i have to reboot my comp to fix it. I have a 200gig HD and 2 gigs of dual channel ram, no probs there. The game ran fine when using my old card (Nvidia 7600GT OC). Thanks in advance.

May I assume you have the most up to date video drivers (and have removed all traces of the NVidia drivers) and are not trying to play in OpenGL mode?

Your system specs are very similar to mine, except I have a NVidia 7900GT video card. You should, by all accounts, be cooking with grease.

Weird constant noises?
With 99% propability that's a hardware related freeze.
Did you upgrade your power supply as well? The new parts are very likely more powerhungry than the previous ones...

A power suppply wouldn't cause a constant noise with a hard crash.

But it is worth checking, just to be sure that you've enough power for your innards.

It sounds, to me, very much like a video conflict that hard crashes your system. Without knowing more about your system, this is gonna be hard...Check the Ryzom configuration programme...ryzom_configuration_rd.exe in the ryzom directory. Also, when you upgraded your chip and vid card, did you reload your OS? This could also be a problem as there are settings in the OS (I assume XP here) that will reference the CPU. As you are now on a dual core CPU, this would have changed.

I know that's probably not what you need to hear, but a new chip=reload of the OS, just to be safe.

Oh, are you seeing any odd behaviour in any other applications?

Well i'm not 100% sure i have enough power to run everything but pretty sure i do, i'm using a 600W power supply. Running Windows PX home edition and while trying out NWN 2 the exact same thing is happening. I can run around in the game for awhile (3-4 min) then my screen goes black, the analog/digital flashes back and forth in the top left part of my lcd screen meanwhile the music keeps playing from the game for a bit then it crashes and i have to reboot my comp.

Gonna try to hook up the card to the powersupply differently, maybe it's not getting enough direct energy and cuts out. I'm really not sure whats goin on but very frustrated after paying $630 for new upgrade and have all of my games do the same thing =P

This kind of thing is from conflicting drivers, either video or audio. <--my best guess

Since you upgraded to dual core, there is an xp hotfix you need to download (sorry I don't have that link readily avaliable).

Actually, Junepie, a fresh reload of XP should take care of the single core/dual core issue.

Inzuta, I hate to say this, but if your card is barfing on Ryzom and NWN and throwing the errors as you have described, it may be that your new video card is DoA (Dead on Arrival). It happens. Are *any* 3d applications working for you? Obviously, the 2d portion is good. Oh, and make sure the fan/cooling system on the card is working. It could be that when the card is ramping up to full tempurature and absotively posilutely needs cooling, it isn'y getting it. Not getting sufficient cooling, even once, can cause the card, or more accurately, the core GPU, to give up the ghost.

I would really and truly suggest backing up your data and reloading XP. If the card is still giving you fits, contact the manufacturer of your video card for a possible RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization).
