you can actually sell on to players animal and plant drops from hunting, especially if you just sell a lot of them that way and don't mark them up a lot.
I have yet to do anything with the up/down adjustment for markup and as a fledgling digger/crafter/hunter/mage (slow levelling ftw!) I sometimes find myself with a stack of lowish level materials that I don't want to just dump (I seem to always have the 128 max things for sale to players) so I'd rather burn some cheap xp and make a pile of boots to turn into dappers...so maybe I need to buy a stack of lowish quality components so I can use the stuff up. Better to get some little xp out of it than trash it, and you almost always get more than you spend back when selling the stack of boots to the NPC.
After all, if you got a bunch of ql 23 mektoub hoofs, you aren't going to waste ql 60 Choice jungle pha amber to make ql 23 earrings for practice.
So you can see that raw materials will sell to players, probably not hugely or fast. A lot of crafters are also going to dig their own. But, you got really nothing to lose and it is a way of making some dappers without digging and crafting.
Think about it. You got item X. Petrified Yubo Dung ql 23. Whatever. If you sell to NPC, you get 768. If you sell to players you get 768 and another 1025 if someone buys it. If it expires you already got the 768 and the NPC swallows it.
If you run out of room in the 128 max items you can have for sale, always "retrieve" the lowest items to make room for better stuff. There is no limit on how much stuff you can insta-vend to the NPC.
Now people will sell materials for wildly varying prices, use the filters aggressively, buy the stack for 228 each instead of the stack for 1017 each, and you come out ahead.
I take the higher levels at their word that dappers become plentiful but us lowbies gotta save up for packers and new hair!

While I mostly agree with your post, be careful with this statement.gretchen wrote: Better to get some little xp out of it than trash it, and you almost always get more than you spend back when selling the stack of boots to the NPC.
Buying mats to craft, despite the profit from selling the craft, will easily drive a homin bankrupt. I've seen it time and time again

Re: Cash
Buying npc mats (not player sold mats) to grind crafting will almost always result in negative cash flow. If you do the math you will often find that using the npc mats to fufill just one slot of the craft plan will cause you to spend more than you get in return. Not always... but most of the time.
Of course there are times when you just don't feel like digging so you eat the cost in easily replacable dappers instead of in time spent in the dirt.

Re: Cash
True that is a good disclaimer.
1. I'm more talking about when you have armor clip, padding, whatever but just are out of fiber/skin. Buying all parts does eat dappers.
2. I'm a longstanding cheapskate and penny pincher from years in games where cash was critical and needed. I don't buy expensive mats

Re: Cash
If you buy Q50 mats that were put up at ZERO markup, and turn them into a Q50 item and sell it back to NPC, you will exactly break even. Any markup, or crafting something of lower Q then the mats used, will incur losses.londaran wrote:What kind of markup do you guys use on random quartered mats? will 100% markup still give someone a profit whent hey make something out of it and sell it to the npc?
Since no one puts up mats at 0% markup, crafting with bought mats always hurts your funds.
Sure, you can buy mats for just one slot, like lining. And maybe earn more dapper for the sale of the item then for buying the mats- if you got the mats cheap.
However, you would have made more money just selling the mats you already had to NPC. So in an pure economic sense, buying a single mat to grind craft will always hurt your wealth. (The exception is if you can make something and resell the item with a high markup and a player actually buys it.)

Re: Cash
Ok, so the problem is our inv is already full of various stuff, but not enough of anything to make items. so i guess we should dump some crap and start digging again. Alrighty then.
One other thing, are there any sites that give clues where to dig for what? I would gladly dig if I knew where to dig, but i hate running around the desert looking in vane for specific items and always finding amber or what have you.
Thanks for the advice and help all.

When you get to the mainland, you can have packers to hold that stuff for you.

Re: Cash
I make choice quality helmets and a few other things 40-50ish quality and they sell well. I harvest a lot and then craft it all up and put it on the vendor it sells quite well. Often I put up linings and things that I get from animals or the plants and it sells well.biglou71 wrote:Ok, so the wife and I have subscribed and realy like the game. We made it to level 45ish in melee and went to the Mainland.
Now, though, we are finding it very difficult to make money. it was never much of an issue on Noob island... always noobs to sell weapons and armor too, but not so on the mainland, understandable of course. So, how does a young couple new to the deserts make money?
Thanks
