in my experience the choice that pops in an exc deposit is associated with incomplete exc conditions. it happens in GoC on the exc deposits too. The regular choice deposits are not affected by season or weather.

TBH, one thing not mentioned is your not really going to get much accuracy in searches until your skills are higher. All the other help info posted is correct, but bear in mind your still lacking some of the higher skills which make things a bit easier. We have all been where you are, but as a novice you have to expect that your skills may not yet be razor sharp.

Stay at it, you'll find you may get even more frustrated when you can prospect for 100m/360 and what you want is OOS or not available because of weather or another homin having dug it all out

Are all possible combinations going to be observed, say more limited the higher grade the material, like "all but winter" vs "winter only" or "raining" vs "not raining" ? Does day/night ever play into it?

Only for the excellent aboveground spots (excluding Nexus). Most regular choice spots are weather and season independent. I say most because there are marginal choice spots that are hard to pop and easily depleted. According to some folks, these marginal spots will be easy to pop and plentiful in certain weather conditions. Well anyway, it seemed to work when I tried it ....

For most intents and purposes choice mats above ground will be available all the time. There ARE choice mats that are season and weather related but you won't want to dig them. Reason? They are a side effect of an Excellent mat spawn. Why dig the choice when exc is up?

So just mark the location of choice mats if there are no exc with it.

If you find exc above ground, mark type, location, season, and time of day (they'll usually be availalable a range lke 02:00 - 06:00). You can try marking weather, but that's a tricky one. There are more types of weather then the map will display. Like: Snowing 1, Snowing 2, Snowing 3, Fair 1, Fair 2, Fair 3, etc. Something might pop on Fair 3 through Snowing 2, if that makes any sense.

Yes, I have seen the same with choice becker's in Bog being affected by the exc. which is mixed in the same area.

It may be only a few are affected in this way, GENERALLY however, choice is NOT affected by weather outside of PR (and possibly nexus, but I don't know re: nexus for sure).

For practice it doesn't matter much since xp is xp unless you are a min-maxxer....in which case you might make more xp using what's at hand than running all over trying to find optimal materials.

Now if you are trying to make something specific, with certain qualities, for yourself or someone you know, then I can see popping a nerve on your forehead trying to get that one...certain...something.

That's my newb opinion I got lots of em!
