Welcome to Atys. :)

On the Trail Island there is no Ranged fight.
You´ll get it if you come to the Mainland.
And about its effectiveness, some sai it´s great, some say it isn´t...
Certainly it´s hard to do, because in the lower levels there isn´t that much damage to be done with it, but that later changes as your hitrate and the quality of your wapons increase.
Autolaunchers are a wapon of choice in OP Fights.

You might want to done medium armor, for it´s better protection in case you´re not able to run away (Range is the only combat possible while moving) and a Bonus on stamina (wich is used while firing away) would certainly help too :D

Quick note.. Im not being picky... just couldn't resist.

"ranged melee" is an oxymoron..
You can either have ranged combat or melee combat.. unless i suppose you throw a sword at someone ... (grey area?)..
nah that would still be ranged :p

In answer to your question.. ranged combat can be very powerful at higher levels.. especially in PvP..
It is however one of the most difficult skills to grasp requireing you to dig and craft your own ammo as you go..

Personally I find it one of the most fun skills to level.. But I would suggest getting a few other levels in magic and melee first as well as a headstart on the diggin.

Good luck and have fun

Historycally, in the RPGs between ranged and melee use to be the throwing weapons. Daggers and darts, usually. Shurikens, too. But, I can assure you that "throwing sword" it's something that I've never seen :)

What is the real difference between Bowrifles and plain rifles?

And, are all launchers AOE?

thanks,

They use a different amount of mats to craft and have a different appearance. However, they function identically. You can even interchange rifle/bowrifle ammo regardless of which gun you're using. It is highly reccommended to craft regular rifle ammo though, as bowrifle ammo requiers more mats, yields less shots, and does the same damage.

Yes. All launchers have a bomb-type radial AoE damage around main target. Autolauncher use spray-type AoE, hits your main target and spreats out in a cone behind it.

Actually, i have. FF: Tactics. you could select an item and through it at an opponent. this being anything from the afore mentioned shurikens, to freakin' Excalibur. (not that you would do that, just saying... ;) )

Dmg is mostly based on your ammo, like stated you'll need to dig and get your ammo craft to a decent level first :) . and look for a gun with good range and high speed. even if the dmg is a little less at first if you're hitting ten times more then an axe wielder, seems to make up for it ;) . I reccomend medium armor... because I love ma lol... and it will use less stamina but still provide you with some extra hp, and damage protection.

FF tactics the last battle fun to through all your weapons in your inventory at the last enemy ;) . Best luck with ranged combat :)
