Installed SP2 now have lag issues

Sunday I played and, except for the rare hiccup, had no problems. Monday morning I decided it was past time to update to SP2 (Windows XP) since Microsoft is no longer providing updates for SP1. Monday night I logged in and every three seconds the game lags horribly. I pulled up the Task Manager and the graph looks a cardiograph after running a 100m dash.

Virus and ad/spyware scans are negative. I disabled the Windows firewall. Ryzom is the only program I'm running. Still getting massive lag spikes every 3 seconds like clockwork.

Make sure to make the UDP port exceptions in the firewall.

Remove, reboot and reinstall your video drivers. You should always do that after updating DirectX (which happens in SP2 install btw.)

Well, after 48 hours of hair tearing I finally just removed SP2. Voila! All is good again.

I have no idea what was happening but any graphic intensive program was totally borked. SP2, for my computer, is the devil.

Did you try removing and redoing your video drivers after SP2 install?

One way around this is to make a slipstreamed CD with SP2 already in it. On one of my first XP installs when I moved from SP1 to SP2 I also had performance issues.

When I created an install CD of XP with SP2 slipstreamed in this didn't happen. You can also check out nLite to automate this entire process.
