I think just about half of all mmo's on the market celebrate halloween. And in 90% of those cases, there is a pumpkin involved one way or another. City of Heroes currently has an event going where you can trick or treat which involves walking jack-o-lanterns. Yeah, I can see how this event in ryzom is a complete ripoff of WoW because they randomly placed pumpkins to celebrate halloween.

I'm from norway, I don't celebrate halloween either. When I logged into ryzom and saw a giant pumpkin moon I went "heh funny.", took a screenshot, and resumed poking stuff with my pike. Why anyone would take such offense is somewhat beyond me.

I don't get it, I really do not...Nevrax make this alternative world full of unique creatures. An eco system that has full weather effects including seasons and migration.
Atys has an underworld that beckons me to visit (not experienced enough yet), and a crafting and gathering system to allow the inhabitants to survive and prosper. All around in the cities are the local residents, their apartments and stores.
In the wilderness there are further homins hunting and fighting the local wildlife or opposing homin invader.
So I was quite shocked and dismayed to discover that some of these homin are nothing more than 'puppets', controlled by REAL people sat at real computers, in real locations around a real world....Please Nevrax do something to minimise the real world intrusion on an otherwise alternative world.
In anticipation of a swift response Nevrax, I have sent a thankyou pumpkin in the post.

Hi all

Why do we have pumpkins in game? I have been away a few months and seems Ryzom needs to feed off WOW and GW for ideas?

I feel really ignorant now, I thought it was a paegan festival of ideas....not a (tm) creation

Despite the seeming idiocy of the original post, there are two good points here:

One is from the "hard-core" student of the lore. WTH would there be jack-o-lanterns and painted yubo and distorted celestial bodies? How is that at all consitent witht he story? I really do understand that point of view, and it bothers me, too.

The other is from the more less lore oriented player. The person that logs in to have fun and to hang with their IG firends. Most of them think this is fun and it is a clever change to the status quo. I like the sesional decorations, I they give a touch of joy to the game.

Is there a balance? No, not really. Like Katriell said, the best response from a lore-player is to ignore the decorations and let everyone else have thier fun. It is only a few days, after all.
