Yes M'Lady, no M'Lord, oh Pleeease!!

Come in, pull up a chair, let's discuss all things Ryzom-related.

Maybe they should have a few more chat chanels?

Could have a chit-chat free for all one, and a seperate one for role play.

That way, everyone would be happy.

I like to just have a mass free for all chat on region. We are social people, and it passes the time while grinding and during down time....

I'd have to agree with that, Ye Old English speak seems rather out of place in Ryzom. Surely role playing is all about getting into the character of your avatar so to be honest I don't see where talking in old English fits in with any of the races, it just seems plain weird to be doing it in this game

Pointless pronounciation note:

'Ye' is just an alternative spelling of 'The'.
Both are pronounced 'Thee'

only thing more entertaining than watching a troll is fueling a troll :D
I dont roleplay, but when someone approaches me with a question using old english or somesuch there is no harm in courteously replying in the same speech. No i never use l337 either, i just made an exception here, as it is a terrible deformation of the english language.
Thief 3 was a great game, finished it once without killing anyone (except the seekers and demonic thingies), and once killing everything in sight :D .
Am i supposed to write something witty here ?

good points...

I guess it only bugs me when the region chat gets flooded by one or two people discussing blatantly ooc stuff. And I've probably been guilty of it too so...

I think a seperate channel is a great idea

Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not going to be using thou's and verily's in my sentences but a point was raised and I feel I must respond.

What language should roleplaying in Ryzom be?

It's not set in any particular time period, or on earth, or any other planet that might have been populated by humans. why shouldn't old english be used? Leet probably shouldn't because they have no access to computers or even knowledge of what one is. My personal preference would be to use a polite form of modern english (on the english servers anyway), possibly interspersed with an ocassional "M'lady" if I feel like it, rather than biatch or ho. And I agree entirely with pcheez, if someone comes up to me speaking in old english (which I really doubt) I will reply in the manner that I would roleplay.

Why cant we use normal every day english that we use now - correctly spoken and not l33tised.... simple every day language.

I dont mind roleplaying, it just seems to be every where you go it drops to old english by default.

Its my problem - I did indicate that - I will survive... barely

I'm reminded of the roleplayers I came across in Earth & Beyond. Again, the issue there was that 'ye Olde Englishe' would be out of place, so instead they were simply incredibly polite and courteous while using 'normal' language.

Personally, I believe roleplaying comes across as attitude rather than florid speech. There was a bout of roleplaying recently in Matis when a Zorai turned up and started making comments about the Matis way of life, to which many of us responded 'in-character'. There were no thees and thous, everyone just used plain old English.
