OOC: New Zorai character

Post by cainvamp »

Before anything else... Hello there!

I'm a newb to Ryzom but I'd say I carry with me some experience with Role Playing, from old fashioned pen & paper games like Vampire to the latests MMO'RPGs, with a still subscribed account on play.not MUD by the name of Dragon Realms... also my native language is Portuguese not English so pardon me the terribly restricted and awfully spelled, english!

I'm terribly amazed to find in Ryzom what I’ve been missing in every graphical online RPG I’ve been into.... the actual Role Play by the community wich seems to be more and more a rare trait. This said it's obvious the reason why I've subscribed this apparently great game and quickly joined the new born server "cho" has a zorai male character. Ran thro all the trials possible in the rangers camp and even got to forge a couple of friendships with the new born like my self.

Now I’m faced with a problem.... I wish to actually build on "Shiftshade's" background and realize how little I know about the zorai them self’s... since now days i have not has much free time available as I once had, to dig thro countless pages of lore gathering bits and pieces of information, I’d like to humbly request if someone could give me a general idea about this noble and deeply spiritual race... specially about the masks.
I do remember reading somewhere, us zorai have such masks genetically imbued into our body’s... what does that mean? are born with em? are they genetically passed by like scotch clan patterns? are they fused on their faces at birth in a ritualistic event? and are they truly a demonstration of a deep connection with the Kami? What if a zorai becomes heretic or disbeliever? Shouldn’t the masks be removed? Or is that impossible has he's born with em?... know what I mean?
None of this seems to be answered where I did have the time to look for...

Thank you in advance for any replies.

PS: My character’s obviously a male zorai by the name of "ShiftShade" and he's living in the mainland since yesterday, in "cho" server.

Welcome to Atys! :)

I recall reading in the Atys Chronicles that the masks are placed on the Zorai's faces in ritual at a young age. I can't seem to find the article though. They are a symbol of the Zorai's bond with the Kami. The masks are (semi?-) alive and grow with the Zorai and contain nanoseeds. All Zorai apparently "choose" to wear them. (Detractors have made other assumptions.) They apparently cannot be removed as we see no maskless Zorai even amongst the Karavan Zorai tribes.[/OOC]

So can we assume the zorai have masks just like the "jafa's" wear their tatoos on the forhead.. even if they come to betray their "gods" and thou the mark it self is done after birth, they still wear it has it's more like a tradition then an actualy sign of dedication to some god.... hummm, anything else i should know about the zorai?

Quite likely. Hop over the the atys chronicles site to learn more about the customs and cultures of Atys.

The Zorai's mask is genetically sealed to the face of a zorai at a young age. It can not be removed. (The exact process was never discussed as far as I can tell). The mask is to show their love and dedication to the Kami. If a Zorai decides to not follow the Kami or is considered and outcast, generally they remove the horns (again I don't know the details of how).

I've never really looked at that site till now and let me just say that it's not a good site at all for finding information. Take this players question:

What is the deal with the zorai mask?

There is no way to search the site for a story on it. There is no quick reference. There is simply a bunch of RP stories.

Yes, I have found this problem too. It is all stories and interviews on seemingly random topics. There needs to be someplace to find just general lore about Ryzom...Or is there one?

Also, if you are looking for a Kami role-playing guild, very heavy role-playing, then look me up. I'm in the process of creating it, final preps. So send me a /tell or mail.

As i mentioned before i dont have has much time to spend as once had, so i can hardly hope to to be "heavy" rileplaying, on the other hand i am allways "lightly" roleplaying even when talking of out of the game events. It's a vice i cought in Dragon Realms like when trying to ask someone in public if they'r having lag we'd go like "is it just me or is it foggy tonight..."

Also it's too soon to consider picking sides joining guilds... maybe later on who knows :)

Yes yes. I see your point, but if you ever do end up following the Kami teachings, look me up.

Or, another guild to try is Nightsong. I know your probably not guild searching yet, but they are a nice bunch of people, neutral, who role-play mainly through chat. If thats kind of what your looking for, then try asking Rayn or Chennai. But take your time, as you might not want a guild yet. ;)

And Welcome to Atys! :D
