Hello all, I am new to Ryzom and have played many MMO's in the past, hell I think I have played almost all of em. Here in this game I am finding my self is a spot that I have never been in, and don't get me wrong, I am glad to be in it. I have read almost all the documentation and look through the forums and find both the game and the community a challenge. What I mean is that the game mechanics force you into a position of actually having to work at playing, I love this but am a little lost as to what direction to go. As far as the community challenge, there seems to be factions among the community that leave me lost for words. So with that said let me get to my questions.
Guilds are important and so our the factions that you pick, does this mean that you should or have to pick a guild that follows the same factions as you, and does your guild reflect into your factions in the game mechanics or only the factions that the player impose on them self's? Events are great and most games have so few of them, does Ryzom have events on a regular basis or are they few and far between?
Sorry for the large post, I have many more questions that may seem very trivial to you so I will leave them for later inquiry and discussion, Thanks
A quick question
Re: A quick question
Unless you plan to be neutral, and it doesn't appear that way... your guild choice should reflect your game choices. You can be any race and align with any race or faction... some choices are slightly harder but your guild can help you get where you want to be.
"Events" is a relative word... not everyone considers the same thing an "event". Player run events are fairly frequent and different strokes for different folks... Official events vary from showing up somewhere to hear someone talking IC to Kitin invasions (like the current slaughter week)... Official events are fairly often though often I am asking myself "where's the beef" depending on what occurs...
Relative is based on what you like but there is usually something going on to give you a break from the gear bashing hunts... it's all a matter if what's going on is your cup of tea.

Never be afraid to ask questions here, people are only too delighted to help people get use to Ryzom.
Remember, there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers

Re: A quick question
Thanks for all the responses, I am still currently located on the starting Island and there for have little insight into what I am about to face. All the knowledge that I currently have about the game is through documentation, and not first hand. Another question that I was thinking of, is this. Is it hard to find a guild being someone of little experience? And is it common practice to 'twink' new members? I am my self hate twinking new players as it robs them of the experience of the game. It has also been my experience in other games that there is a slight disdain for new players until they reach a certain point.
Re: A quick question
It's not really possible to twink significantly, item use is limited by your current attributes and skills; also xp is dependent on skills used, so a player trying to help you with high level skills reduces your xp.
I haven't found any disdain for new players; I've only been in game a couple of months and everyone has been really helpful.
One very nice feature is that since there are so many skill trees, higher level players often have lower level skills so they can group with you; you get the benefit of their experience, but it's not twinking since the group is using low level skills.

That was large ? you should see some if the long rambling threads we have here sometimeskaceyr wrote:Sorry for the large post

But DT's basically right, guilds are important, and faction to. Faction gives you a tag, guild gives you a name and a sort of social reference. It is your own name that will be important in how people deal with you most of the time

Re: A quick question
One can't really twink here, there are some possibilities to twink using old style armors and jewels with no req's so a ql 250 can be worn at level 1. but there are few of those around and it does not realy help a lot (live one hit longer big whoopykaceyr wrote: And is it common practice to 'twink' new members? Guilds and players give equipment to new players most of the time. There is a gradual scale if improvement in equipment and most guilds have enough crafters to suit up new players when they grow out of the starter stuff with ease. For this you won't have to pay or grovel, most players are happy to help you out with stuff. (using some roleplay and telling a good story about how you lost your amps while playing cards with a mercenary will certainly win my hart

It depends here, if you are friendly you will most likely be taken aboard and be treated as a equal. If you are a arse, rude or l33t yo might run into some problems.kaceyr wrote:
