Access violation popup and crash

Post by olepi »

I've been playing Ryzom for about 6 months on this machine. There are the odd crashes, but lately, since I moved to Cho, I get crashed 2-3 times a night. The sequence is:

1) playing along ...
2) screen freezes
3) ryzom minimizes, and the windows display takes over
4) a pop-up comes up, mentions a virtual memory access error
5) sometimes I can "ignore" this pop-up and get back in
6) most of the time, the game just crashes there

As I said, I have been using this same hardware for months with no change:
AMD Athlon 2ghz
1 gb mem
Radeon 9800 video

Any help appreciated.

could be memory related:

check memory with memtest

your swap file might have become corrupted also; delete it, reboot and reassign

after saying that 90% of the crashing errors i have had have been down to drivers, there is something weird i think in my system but Ryzom runs brilliantly with very old (71.89) nvidia drivers and rubbish with newer ones ;)

May also want to think about downloading the latest installer and redoing your installation. Clean work surface and all :)

Dont forget to save anything and everything you may want prior to re-install ;)

I am having the same crashes....and its a bit strange, that these crashes occour only on Cho server, nothing wrong with on Aristophle. On Cho it sometimes happens in 5 minutes after a login, and sometimes after 1 hour or so. First i thought its gonna be the OpenGL problem so i switched to D3D but that didnt help. I reinstalled my system and of course SOR, but no change it keeps crashing and its frustrating. I am going to try the memcheck, but its hard to believe that the system that has no problem with other many games crashes on and on with SOR.

Try deleting the 'string_cache' files found in the DATA folder and make sure that the whole UDP range is opened/forwarded/triggered as Cho is on a different IP and port than Aris.
