methinks the OP is blaming the event for what is the normal conditions of Atys.
I have travelled over a lot of Atys looking for "slaughter Week" content, and as far as I can tell, its only window dressing and some teaser NPCs so far.

hoping something more turns up soon.....

Sorry to cause confusion but i am actualy refering to the week that has started today, after the patch i saw a significant increase in the spawns around Fairhaven, on many of the smaller islands you cannot see the land for the infestation of mobs there, As for fairhaven itself there is a massive increase in the mob wandering around and although these particular animals pose no real threat they are of to low level to gain xp ergo i must travel to other parts of the region to find creatures to gain xp from, this has been made impossible due to the hostile mob increase which before the patch i was able to avoid but now there are just to many to bypass i refer to creatures like the angry ragus (or some such name) that i came across on one of my favorite hunting patches, usualy i may find a few pockets of these in groups of 2 or 3, quite easy to avoid as long as i don't get to close but today in the same place the 3 or 4 small groups of 3 animals had turned into one large group of 30 animals which was impossible to pass undetected.

In the same vain i came across animals that were cooperative and although usualy hunting them poses no real danger i can kill a group of 2 or 3 animals in one go it is not possible to kill a group of 11 which was how many would attack at one time due to the inordinate amount of these animals.
the other more solitary animals are not worth hunting as they provide little or no xp being lvl1 or 2 mob.

I did check whether the spawn had been increased and was informed it had been by the csr and was increased for slaughter week, therefore i have decided not to play this week as i do not enjoy losing more xp than i gain.

The part about foraging btw was sarcasm. but i'm still unhappy that that was the only game play option left open that would enable me to gain xp.

I would think that an increase in mobs is a good thing. As a lower level I always had trouble finding a good sized spawn. Granted, the aggro might be a bit worse (but it does help to teach you sneaking skills for prime roots). And, I would hate to navigate outside of Yrkanis (no, I haven't been ingame yet...still patching).

What you saw is actually normal after a server reboot. The mobs get naturally thinned out by predators and homins hunting so after a day or so their numbers are greatly reduced.

The concentrations you saw are the "default" spawns and some of them are huge.

If I may be as bold to suggest.....

There are always many many homins around the stables in Fairhaven, many of whom would like to level their skills. You can always form teams with them. All you have to do is ask.

There are always lots of bored high lvl players around Fairhaven stables. A plea for a rez on "Kami Hill" (so called because its a hill with the kami teleporter on it) will result in the majority of them leaping to their feet and racing to rez you.

Explore slowly, learn which mobs will gang attack you if you attack them. Learn which mobs will attack you on sight. Don't get too ambitious if you are playing alone, do that in teams. Yea you'll still die but you have a bunch of people to laugh about it with and you can quickly clear your death penalty together.

Consider joining a guild, most are recruiting. Just take some time to pick one that suits your playing style.

Above all, don't give up and not play. That's defeatist :P Be strong, Be a Warrior, show those puny mobs whos boss !!!! Above all HAVE FUN....

hate to break it to you but the area outside FH is a playground compared to most of Ayts. What happens after patches or reboots is that when the server comes up there are many more mobs, it takes a while for the life cycle of the herbs and carnivores to settle down and thus the numbers reduce to their 'normal' levels. it has nothing to do with an event.

but back to my first comment you will find most of the world much more dangerous than fh is after a reboot, but all you need to do is pay a little attention and you can travel safely enough. Our world is an unforgiving place, max level ppl can die easily enough in a lv150 zone if they dont pay attention.

I can confirm that the extra mobs you have come across are in no way related to Slaughter Week (they may look a little different but there aren't more of them due to this event). This is just normal after a reboot.

You know, I read these sort of posts, and I just scratch my head.

Sure, it itches occasionally. I've tried all kinds of shampoo, but I digress.

Point is, this is a game with a rather unpredictable dynamic where you have to pay attention to where you are and what you are doing. I've been caught off guard by being in an area devoid of activity, to all of a sudden be overwhelmed by the arrival of packs of whatever is roaming the area.

Hmm... sort of like nature.

You just have to be vigilent. Unlike other games, where mobs are always where they are, walking the same scripted locations over and over, Ryzom creates a world where the unpredictable happens. Our playstyle needs to accomodate that.

I love the dynamic. I've died a lot, but I've learned a lot, and for me, a game where you have to think a bit more isn't a bad thing. Just needs a bit more patience, and when you succeed, it is more satisfying as a result.

Give me liberty AND give me death. In Ryzom, they can often go hand in hand.

Experiment with the Taunt action. :) You can use it to separate an animal from its herd.

Some very good and informative posts here thank you all for your input.
I will admit that when i wrote the original post i was more than a little frustrated and maybe a little blinkered too.
It seems the info given to me about the spawn size was incorrect and that natural progression will thin these thank you for putting me straight on that fact.

I will once again be rejoining my new found friends on Atys and will definately be taking all of your suggestions on board, I have not been seeking an easy ride and i do understand that living and surviving on Atys is not meant to be a walk in the park nor would i want it to be but i think in the future i may give it an hour or two after server reboots until i am in a guild or have a solid group of friends that play at the same time as myself, or indeed until i am sufficiently advanced in my skills that i can take a little more punishment befor i die a horrible and noisy death.

Once again i thank you all for your input and i'll see you ingame.

I noticed at the beginning that there is a pretty steep curve, and then it levels off a bit, At first, you cannot leave the cities very much, as the "dogs" will get you. However, after a while, you can just kill these dogs, and even hunt them.

Once you can confidently go out hunting the dogs, you find that you can explore a lot more of the world. But getting over that first hump is hard.
