Basically agree with Kyerna about leaving the RL stuff out but its logical to assume Atys would have its own festivals and Myths.
I personally didnt like the christmas trees (Bah Humbug) but without setting up whole new sections of lore ,which alot dont read anyway, lets enjoy the little additions or twists and accept them as fun whether its through RL Halloween spirit or our own Atysian version.

Re: Slaughter Week?
Now THIS is an interesting thread.
I gave this some thought this morning after reading through many of the posts in here, and figured I would throw in.
While I personally don't like the idea of incorporating a specific holiday into a game, I can understand why it is done the way it is. People, during the holidays (which ever ones they celebrate), get into a "holiday spirit". If a game incorporates that spirit, players who celebrate those holidays will be able to take their good cheer and holiday spirit with them, rather than escape it.
Of course, the other side of the coin is that different holidays have different meanings for different people. Halloween is one of them. There are those that do not celebrate it, believing it is evil in origin. There are those that celebrate it as Samhain, or one of its many similar versions in various faiths. There are those that look at it as the commercial candy fest.
Depending on how each person views the holiday will determine how each person reacts to a holiday being incorporated into a game. While some will say something to the effect of "just have fun!", others may be offended or angered with how their deeply held beliefs are interpreted. And... what of the holidays that are *not* incorporated into the game?
Personally, I feel such things are better left alone. It makes sense to me to have Atysian holidays take the stage, and RL holidays left in RL. Not because I am personally offended by them... but because I can understand how other people may be.
I certainly won't complain if there is a similar but different holiday in Ryzom which is lore dependent and different enough from RL... but... it's a fine line to walk for some, and the world is in the state it is because of people's personal convictions. Perhaps the idea of incorporating RL holidays into a game isn't as trivial as one might think.
Just some thoughts that popped into my head as I read through the thread.
